Thanks ALOT for the list, I look forward to your site. I have about 30 of these so far and am wondering if they are worth getting them graded. I really like the holders and protection, but not sure if there worth spending the Money? Heres a scan to give an idea of condition as I'm not sure how to grade them myself.

Slabbing them isn't going to help resale value, no matter who you use. Slab them for the reseaons you stated, or keep them raw. It's up to you.

Tell me about the Hank Greenberg card ? How difficult is it tough to find ? Is it rare ? Any tricks/hints for telling if a raw one is authentic ? Did they make official reprints of the set/card ?

I disagree. The R314s are very condition sensitive and tough to find in nice shape. Grading them not only preserves them, but also establishes their condition to some degree. I've seen graded examples do fairly well.

I don't know the condition, I just don't really want to send a $5.00 card in for grading, it seems to be a waste of money so I was looking for input. I assume I don't have any big dollar players yet and those I'll buy graded.

The Greenberg is certainly worth grading. I can't get a great feel from the scan, but I would bet that it would grade out at VG-VGEx. Greenberg is one of the better cards in the set, next to the 2 Dimaggios and the Feller.

You can start with the Standard Catalog. Although, I don't think it's always got a good pulse on the market. However, you should be able to distinguish the stars from the others.

You might check some of the past and current online auction houses too.

1936 Type 1 (120): white borders, "LITHO IN U.S.A." at bottom
1936 Type 2 (24): white borders, no "LITHO IN U.S.A."
1936 Type 3 (24): no borders
1937 Type 4 (36): Major Leaguers, creamy stock, bordered, no "LITHO IN U.S.A."
1937 Type 5 (39): Minor Leaguers, creamy stock, bordered, no "LITHO IN U.S.A."

Specific poses are given for 90% of the cards.

Thanks Bob for all the hard work you do. Every little update helps collectors alot. The SCD Standard Catalog is still the best.

I just recently found out there was a borderless subset (Thanks Tim N.), I now have 2 of them and have seen scans of 6 different. They are fairly tough from what I can see so far.

I guess I should put in a plug for my article in the next issue of Old Cardboard (mentioned by an earlier poster in the thread). It will have the most complete account so far of R314 and its various subsets. I'm also glad to hear the SCD catalog will soon reflect up-to-date knowledge of the 5 sets.
