M101-4 Stanage Portrait to Waist

I brought this topic up with a little researching of the net54 archives in the chat a few nights ago. It is apparent that only one Stanage Portrait has been seen and used to be owned by our very own Jay Miller. I myself have to question this card for one, its the only portrait in the set, two only one has been seen, and three Stanage is the only player in the set that has two cards. It is cataloged as being card number #168. It is hard to not believe Jay, but why has this card never been seen besides the one example which there is no scan of ? There are probably many theories on this card, I believe maybe for some reason the portrait was stopped early in production and replaced with the catching pose, why ? I have no idea and no facts to base it on. Something though happened with this card somewhere along the lines of production in my opinion. What does eveyrone think about M101-4 Stanage Portrait to Waist ?

I'd love to see one. Seems awfully odd that Stanage has action shots in both m101-5 and m101-4, and Mendelsohn advertised action photos, yet this sole portrait was produced as part of the set?

I agree. I think this card should be taken off the checklist, one is supposed to exist, no scan has been seen of it, and it doesn't fit in with the set at all, its the only portait. I don't want to doubt Jay, but this card really does not fit in anywhere.

check this out. this is an uncut sheet set of the m101-4. interestingly enough, card #169, the stanage portrait is not on it. instead card #169 is the casey stengel card. the plot thickens....

It makes you wonder, does anyone know when this card was added to the checklist ? I really can't see it existing, it just doesn't fit in anywhere.

I have never seen the Stanage portrait to waist as an M101-4, but it is in the BF2 set:



I don't think there is a single photo in the BF2's that isn't also used in M101-4/5, so my guess is that there are a few Stanage portraits to the waist floating around out there.

Thanks for sharing--this is strong evidence. BTW, if you ever get tired of looking at that Stanage, or any other BF2s that nice, I'll be happy to take it/them off your hands.

Are you aware of any "action" Stanage in the BF2 as well, or is this it for Oscar?

I have only seen two Stanage BF2's (including mine) in the time that I've been putting together the set and they have both had the portrait to the waist pose. That is obviously a very small sample so it may be that the catching pose exists as well.

I'll look through by BF2's and see if I have any duplicates that may interest you and will send you an email in a day or two.

Zach-You need to develop more patience. BTW, do you know that the M101-5 Stanage is a different picture than the M101-4 Stanage so there are really three different Stanage pictures.

Jay is right--Oscar is in follow-through mode in m101-5, ball in glove in m101-4. One of only a handful of players who have different poses in the two sets. All the more reason it is strange that Stanage would appear in portrait style also.
