Mastro closed a few days ago,and I am surprised that nobody has commented on this lot.Really great looking card,but why did it go for so much ? The description states that it is in the upper tier R-319 grades,but there are others that look as good to me and did not garner as high a bid as this.Is this card more rare than others ?

I am sure with out looking that it is probably the only PSA 8 or one of very few that is why it went for so much. A couple of guys with very deep pockets battling it out.

There are PSA 8's all around this and they didn't come close to the price of this one !I'm aware of market forces,but my goodness !!I'm a Reds fan,I would have gone with the Luque card.

Scott Ireland bought it for his PSA Registry set. One of 6 PSA 8s, the other 5 being locked up in collections by the likes of Marshall Fogel, Charlie Merkel, etc. that won't see the light of day til their heirs get the cards. Similarly, a #55 Pat Malone PSA 8 went for around 16K I think (after the juice) a few months back. This isn't a case of people buying cards thinking of it as an investment. This is a case of people with gobs of money, where $20K is nothing to them compared to completing a goal of theirs. There are many millionairs out there, and probably a ton of billionaires too. Surely some billionaires are baseball card collectors too.
