OT - Unusual Uniform on Tintype

Hello all,

Just curious if any of the 19th Century BB Card collectors and afficiandos have seen this type of uniform before. This is a c1870 Tintype with a half-bib/shield uniform. Anyone seen these before?

Admittedly the half-bib is unusual and doesn't look familiar, but it is one beautiful image. We have several photo experts on board who may have seen it before.

My guess is that they were probably just trying to be a trend setter.
