I know this is a reprint, but does anybody know the history of these reprints? I see these all the time. Thanks! |

I don't know these well enough to tell all of the reprints out there. The seller has a perfect feedback and a rock solid guarantee...and will even send it to SGC for you. Not sure you can get better than that....If I wanted one then this would be one I would bid on just because of the guarantee. If it's a reprint I would cheerfully get my money back... regards |

Yes, the seller looks great & probably just doesn't know. Here's another of these "stained" 149's that's currently on eBay. I remember not too long ago a board member mentioned the history of these cards, & knew who reprinted them. Couldn't find that info, so just hoping somebody knows. |

Based on your experience how easy is it to tell on personal inspection that these are reprints and is there any chance these cards could be making it past one of the major grading services. From the scan I sure as heck couldn't tell, not that I am an expert or anything. |

I'm mostly a type card collector, so I'm not comfortable with the Goudey issue when determining authentication. (especially from a scan) The only reason I think it's a reprint, is that I've seen dozens of these cards with the same staining. |

I trust you and this is what makes me scratch my friggin' head. Just like the Fro-Joys I just sent out to be looked at. If it's that hard for some of us that do this everyday to tell the difference how difficult is it for the casual hobbyist? regards |

It's just that the Fro Joy's are one of my favorites, so I was pretty sure about them. Certain staining like on this Goudey is a warning sign, only because I've seen dozens of them. Just like the staining on the back of some of Ruth 1932 US Caramel reprints. I'm no expert. I'm just here to learn like the rest of us. As soon as you think you know it all, your gonna get burned. |

In the ice age otherwise known as the 1970's -- the Goudey reprints were made really really well. |

I sent them to a renowned expert to look at. My guess is the one I had is good but the others that were on ebay aren't. After looking at them for an hour, through a magnifying (6x) glass, I couldn't tell for sure...we'll see...regards |

I was the one who last asked about this card. The response below was by Scott Forrest. |

I don't know if this one is a reprint, but in the 1970's this set was printed up in the Detroit Michigan area by a well known dealer/collector at that time. The 1st cards that were done did not have reprint anywhere on the card. But after a lot of discussion and collectors seeing problems in the future, the rest were printed with reprint printed on the back of the card. I found uncut sheets of these cards in antique and resale shops more than once. |

I MAY NOT HAVE A TRAINED EYE BUT LOOKING AT THE THREE POSTINGS THAT HAVE PICS, IT'S EASY TO SEE THAT ALL THREE RUTH CARDS ARE OFF CENTER THE SAME AND THE STAINING ON THE TOP AND LEFT BORDER ARE CLEARLY THE SAME. MY TWO CENTS. |
