My father kept a scrap book as a kid and he was recently going through it when he came across an envelope he'd not opened since 1946 when he was 15. Inside was a letter from his brother's father-in-law, a doctor in NYC, explaining that he'd been to the Columbia University Club in NYC the night before and had met a famous athlete, who had written my father a note. The letter also promised to have my dad to the club some time to meet the athlete in person, but that never happened. Inside the letter is a perfect 10 handwritten note on Columbia University Club letterhead to my dad from Chicago Bears legend Sid Luckman. |

That's awesome!! As I am a native Chicagoan, I find that very cool. The last good QB the Bears had. And my brother goes to Columbia Graduate school. Thanks for sharing. |

That's a nice deal, dated while he was still a NFL player. Luckman was a Colombia grad. |

As a Columbia Grad, I collect all sorts of stuff related to Columbia and that is an awesome find. |

Lots of players changed their sigs once they started signing for a living. Look at Mays and Mantle: both developed stylized signatures. Below is a later Luckman. |

these cards have been FANTASTIC in SCD.......why don't you guys print and produce them? Are there huge considerations of licensing? |

For the limited demand, the hassles of licensing would not be worth the time and money. Creating these cards is my hobby now that I am oursuing very few "real" cards. My "Series 2" 1955-style All-Americans completed list stands at about 32. I hope someday to fill out a set of 100. Lately I've been working on some baseball card projects for a change of pace. |

BOB - I remember when Krause produced Baseball Cards magazine they had a cardboard insert page of real looking cards in most of the issues, be it 1959 Topps style cards w/ stars of the day like Gregg Jefferies, Eric Davis & Ryne Sandberg, or other spoof cards of Mantle & Ted Williams, |

We inserted "repli-card" sheets into various issues of Baseball Cards magazine and some of our other sports titles between 1984-1993. By the time we ended the practice, the cards seemed to have lost their appear as a newsstand sales incentive, plus we were getting heat from the MLBPA about their status as editorial content. It would have cost a lot of money to defend our position and since the cards were no longer driving magazine sales, we dropped them. I have not yet done a Brett Favre card (I'm still looking for a good college photo). I did get a good response from Burt Reynolds about his Florida State card; he had me work up a dozen extra cards for him to give out to family and colleagues. |
