I notice that the Standard Catalogue corrects the 1931-32 Four-on-One Exhibit of Ruth, Gehrig, Lary and (James) Reese by noting that the Reese pictured is actually Andrew Reese. According to my Baseball Encyclopedia, though, Andrew (Randy) Reese played only for the Giants and completed his career in 1930. Can anyone speculate as to how Andrew Reese ended up on this Yankee card after completion of his career? Thanks. Mark

I was under the impression that one of the attractive features of the J.Reese 4 in 1 exhibit was that it is his only card. I guess it is not.

He also has an impossible to find 1928 PCL Exhibit and several Zeenuts cards.

The catalog is right. Look at the hat on the player pictured; it is a Giants hat. Jimmie never played for the Giants.

Interestingly, the catalog also now lists the 1931 Zeenut as Andy Reese. This too would be correct based on career stats of Jimmie Reese, who was in NY and STL from 1930-32, then went back to the PCL afterwards.

The 1931 Reese Zeenut card has been inaccurately listed in the SCD guide for years as Jimmie Reese. Glad to hear it has been changed to Andy.

Despite its problems, the SCD guide is hands down the best and most thorough catalog for the vintage bb market. However, the Beckett guide does have a much better Zeenut listing as it gives both first and last names for 98% of the Zeenut run of cards, which I believe (could be wrong) were derived from Don MacPherson and Buck Barker's countless years of research. You do have to search within each years listings, however, as they are alphabetized within the year by team; for example A-Z players for the Los Angeles team, then A-Z for Oakland, etc. Even if you know what team the player played for, you still have to scurry your eyes over the listing, as these team groupings are not identified. Not ideal, but at least the information is there.
