Since Jay is plugging the soon to be released Deadball Stars of the AL, I thought maybe everyone here might like to share some interesting facts about some of the players on this cardboard. I'll start with a couple of my own, We have all seen the photo of Ty Cobb sliding into 3rd and taking out the 3rd baseman, that 3rd baseman is Jimmy Austin found in the T205 set and a few others I am sure. Also Mike Powers was a cathcher for the Philadelphia Athletics who died from complications after chasing a foul ball in Shibe Park's inaugural game. Anyone else care to share? |

According to photographer Charles Conlon, Dizzy Dean refused to let anyone photograph him off field while he was holding a baseball in his pitching hand (might reveal secrets). Rube Marquard refused to be photographed while warming up. After Conlon photographed him this way, Marquard confiscated the film from his camera. |

So Cobb and Mathewson were both in That Room, where the gas was before it should have been there, and the recruits were there to learn to put on their gas masks. So, if both of them were THERE--how come... |

Matty probably was trying to help the recruits, while Cobb got out there with his spikes flyin' high. |

I don't know if this is exactly what this thread is about. But, Chief Bender died on the exact same day that I was born. |

along a similar line, Janis Joplin used to tell her buddies that she was born in the same hospital as me. No one knew what she was talking about, but once I'm famous they'll understand her foresight. |
