My guess is Bresnahan, but no clue on the issue. |

I was thinking Bresnahan too, but from the scan, it just doesn't seem to be vintage, but more like a modern card done in a vintage style. |

My guess is that it is a notebook cover featuring Roger Breshnahan. |

unless it's a modern card OF A DEAD BALL ERA CATCHER--you don't think it looks like a lithograph? I do. |

Great guess Brian. I have two of these 1910 era Notebook Covers that are similar in design to the Turkey Reds. I have them both matted and framed. |

The notebook covers are matted with a different color matt with changes the look a little bit. The first notebook also is a little dirtier looking. |

Ok, thought I would give you folks a toughie. You only have to name the card issue--but bonus points if you identify the scandal-ridden but obscure player pictured. Eric is not eligible to answer--he owns this card. |

Not Mr. Gandil, but in an indirect sense Chick shares something in common with our mystery player. And people, keep trying with the issue... |

Damn, That was going to be my guess on issue but had no idea what the designation for covers were. |

Could this be a M101 Sporting News Supplement? The card lists I could find seem to track the more famous players near the scandal, which doesn't fit well with "obscure." |

Not a Sporting News Supplement. Like the supplements it is a nice photographic image, but it has more typical 'card' dimensions. The player has no connection with the Black Sox scandal, but was indeed involved in a much less remembered baseball scandal of his own. I'll give you folks a couple more days before I start throwing out hints. |

Jay is correct--it is Jimmy O'Connell of the W503 set. I will provide a full picture later on when I have the time, and will start a new thread and tell the sad tale of Jimmy. |

Here is the Jimmy O'Connell card in its full glory...well almost full glory. Who needs corners on cards anyway? They are just prone to get damaged, and we all know how that affects its slabbed grade. |
