I like the idea of a pre-ww2 limit, but breaking into sub-catagories like scott did, wouldn't be a bad idea and make it more managable for most collectors. |

about registering my Mello Mint set! All they need to do is add about 50 sets from pre-war in the drag down menu and away we go! pete can post five more sets in progress on the registry that are not yet listed and some of use can either compete or advertise via the registry for sets we would like to complete.I would hope that is part of the logic in addition to "show-n-tell".Heck some of the stories on the PSA site as to why people are compliing the sets is interesting. The affection for certain years we watched sports and cettain teams et is great fun and SGC should expand it.Maybe Leon and his hoard of type cards, can moderate it! |

I agree with Runscott. It just legitimizes that people are willing to pay for anything "Vintage"and should be categorized like every other rarity. My vintage cards,photos,cut-outs, are worth more to me than they are monetary. So I guess that proves that these paper-stock items/cards (thick or thin stock) are worth only as much as someone willing to pay for them like my T-206 commons. I'm gonna send my WW cut-outs in to get graded by Roy and AAA. Thanks |

I assume you were joking about my dribble, because it wasn't. Many on this board complained to high heaven about PSA's registry-- calling it the biggest scam since One-Hour Martinizing. Suddenly, it's not such a bad idea when the pals at SGC start offering it .... It's no skin off my nose one way or the other, as I don't collect trading cards-- I just thought the turn of events was interesting. |

If you don't care about a registry that is fine. Don't participate. I am only trying to allow myself and other CARD collectors more fun in our addiction...uh er hobby and it is a good business move for SGC. Please don't spoil it before it starts. You may take your baseball and go home if you wish. I have another one in my bat bag anyway |

AAA isn't professional. When you sell items that you grade yourself, and assign grades based on edges that you cut yourself with your own pair of scissors, all under the guise of it being two different organizations...no, you aren't professional - you are a thief. |

Leon, I don't have a personal opinion the registry, and wasn't offering one. I literally don't have two graded cards to rub together. I was merely reminding what many offers on this board has voiced on numerous times. I remember when Vorthian asked the board if he should register his Fro Joy set with PSA, and the majority were on him like crows on a june bug. |

Leon---You love type card collecting; everyone on the board can see that. Why is it important to you to compete with other type card collectors in a public forum, ie. via a registry set? Do you really need that pat on the head from SGC that says yours is the third best (or even best) type card collection out there? |

I want one for the same reasons that I collect. Not to say "mine is better than yours" because I know it's better than some and not as good as others. Who cares about that? I don't. If folks think that that is my intention then I did not explain myself to start with. When I post pics of cards it is for the enjoyment of other collectors. IF you don't like "show and tell" with other folks that is fine. I like collecting. I like showing and comparing and telling and getting to know fellow "collect'oholics." I even enjoy it when you call me every week or so and vice versa. To ME that is what makes the hobby fun. I got over a lot of the ego stuff a few years back. You have one of the best OJ collections on earth. I would love to see a list and pics of it. If it were registered ( which I know it won't be as you don't even like the idea of grading companies) then I and others could see it. That is a shame to keep all of those beautiful masterpieces locked up....To me it is not about who has the best it's about sharing and having fun...in it's simplest form....that is all, although I am sure for many it is an ego thing... .....best regards |

One of the reasons I prefer ebay over the phone order auction houses, is that I get to see who I'm bidding/competing against. Back in 1998, when I was a saucer-eyed, ebay greenback, I remember seeing an Old Judge common for under $50 that looked like it had been washed and dryed. I thought I'd pick it up on the cheap, as I'd never owned an Old Judge card before. I was the high bidder with 12 hours left. The next day, I realised that I had been "sniped" by J@sempratrading. I knew then that if I wanted any Old Judge cards I'd have to outbid sempratrading. It's like that old joke... you don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the other guy he's chasing. |

I think Leon's idea could probably be accomplished by simply having a Hall of Fame Registry like PSA's on SGC's -- for me the fun part of the registry might be to see which cards of which Hall of Famers collectors have with the grade being secondary at best. |

The more cards that are viewable to the public, the better. If the registry has jpgs of the cards, I'm all for it. |

Leon---I hear what you are saying but why do you need a registry set to accomplish this? Why not just post your cards on the net like Andy and some others do? That way you could share your collection with others and avoid the competition aspect of it. |

I was going to say that I'm not sure what point Mr McKenzie was trying to make but that would be wrong. Actually, I am positive that I don't have a clue what he is saying. I kinda get that I outbid him in the last day on an off condition Old Judge card. However, the part about him buying an Old Judge Mack from me, not knowing what it was, and then selling it at what turned out to be a bad level sort of escapes me. If he didn't know what it was why did he buy it in the first place? If he didn't know what it was when he bought it it must have been a pleasant surprise when he found out it was a HOFer, and not only that, one of the best HOFers in the Old Judge set. So, after finding this out what does he do---the obvious, he sells it with no reserve. Help me out---what am I missing. And by the way, did I just watch OSU beat Miami or was I dreaming that also? |

Having them in one place is nice. ALSO, I didn't even think about the aspect of others seeing what I still need and possibly helping. There are just way more positive than negatives. Again, it's one of those things that is rather benign. If folks don't want to participate (like Andy or you) that is fine too.....live and let live....regards |

Having your site to show your collection is nice, but you are generally limited on the space you have (my site is maxed out and I don't even have half my Indian cards listed with pics yet), unless you buy commercial space. Besides, I would be willing to bet that SGC will get far more hits than a personal site ever would. |
