A few years back a thread ended up producing some good lists of various sets issued in 1914 and 1915 that contain cards of players with Federal League team designations. For reference, here is a link to that thread:
https://www.net54baseball.com/showth...hlight=federal Being that we are currently visually deprived of our normal dose of baseball card imagery, I decided to comb through and research to see if any more Federal Leaguers during the leagues two year stint were hiding out there. I did find a fair amount in the sets that were not included in the other thread's lists (kidnapped18 and jjbond were the two posters that provided the bulk of the information, along with a bunch of other contributors). Many of these were pose variations, but also some that went unnoticed. In the process, I decided, utilizing their great lists, to redo and gussy up things with bold and underline emphasis (!), and post it as a cohesive entity, full of elan and mustard. Just seeing if you were still with me. Feel free to post about changes/additions/subtractions/other sets not included, or just plain stupidity on my part, and we can shape this up to be a handy guide for those interested in the Federal Leagues. I have grouped each set by team to make it easier for team collectors to spot what is available for these somewhat oddly named teams. Thanks for cleaning up the list Brian. You can add a Konetchy glove low to the T214 Victory Pittsburgh Fed. list, see post one in this months pick up thread.

This is fantastic, thank you! As an Indianapolis collector, I had no idea about the George Mullin T213, T214, or Frank LaPorte T330. If anyone has one of these to spare, please let me know!

Max Flack's an interesting case, as not only did his 1915 Postaco card show his Federal League status, close inspection of all of his 1916-22 cards show him in Chicago Feds/Whales uniforms! It would take until 1923 for Flack to be shown in an MLB uniform.

Among the way too many things I collect is the 1914 T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps set. I have about 50 stamps from this set. Of those I have 9 that show a Federal League designation...I have at least 1 representative from each of the 8 teams except the Chicago Whales. They are as follows with pic verification:
Baltimore Terrapins Quinn Brooklyn Tip-Tops Delahanty Buffalo Blues Blair Downey Ford - white cap variation Indianapolis Hoosiers LaPorte Kansas City Packers Stovall Pittsburgh Rebels Jones St. Louis Terriers Crandall I have a couple of observations. 1) I have a stamp of Otis Crandall with St. Louis Feds shown on front. This stamp is not in your checklist. 2) I have 2 stamps of Chief Bender...both have Phila. Am on front. You have Bender on your list as a Baltimore Terrapin...can you provide a pic of this variation? Thanks Phil, Daryl, Rob, Matthew, and John for your comments and potential changes to the list. I have added the T214 Victory Konetchy glove low, the D303 General Baking Chase fielding, and the T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps of Crandall St. Louis Terriers to the list. I have also deleted the T330-2 of Bender with Baltimore Terrapin designation from the list.
And now the confession. I utilized the Trading Card Database while researching for this newly invigorated list. Because of time constraints, I only checked the teams that the TCDb site designated for each card, and not the image provided to confirm the actual team designation on the card. For example, on their site they have T330-2 Bender on their list with a Baltimore designation, but the image shown has the Philadelphia designation. And the Crandall is listed as a New York Giant, but the image shows the stamp designation for him to be the St. Louis Feds (Terriers). When I do have the time I plan to go through the entire Federal League list I created and check the images provided on the TCDb site to identify any other descrepancies, as well as, where necessary, attempt to track down images of those not on their site. While quickly checking, I did notice that the T330-2 of Wilhelm that they have on their list, identified as a Baltimore Terrapin, has as far as I know has not be verified to exist (hence the reason why no image is provided on their site for this one). I will mark it on the list as "currently unverified". As far as suppliments, I think I will hold off on their inclusion, but certainly I nice example and perfectly collectible. Brian |

I had the opportunity to check what I could, and have made revisions to the list on the original post.
I added five additional T214 Victory cards: Bender - no trees Baltimore, Bender - with trees Baltimore, Schaeffer - Kansas City, Tinker - bat off Chicago, Tinker - bat on Chicago. I also added Bridwell - sliding St. Louis to T216 listing. I removed two cards from the D303 listing: Bender - white cap, and Plank - position on front Also I reorganized the groupings to make them in alphabetical ACC order. Let me know if anything seems squinky. Brian Last edited by brianp-beme; Yesterday at 04:38 PM. |

Nice work Brian. You can add Hack Simmons to the Baltimore News list.

Thanks all, and Todd, the Hack Simmons has been added. Always open to all input. Still thinking about the supplement option. It is a category of prewar I have never really considered.
