Who are the most "over-valued" players

All we can do is speculate, but I'd venture that at least a couple of them would have had more rings than Mantle if they had been afforded the luxury of having the Yankees on their side! Especially Williams, in my mind, but certainly some of the others. The only reason I singled out Williams is that his name really popped off that list for me. Thinking even more about it, wow ... Mays with a powerhouse team behind him?! Wow. The others all deserve consideration for the question, that's for sure.

Regardless, none would have as many rings as Crosetti!

I couldn't say personally; I don't do a ton of prewar. But if they are more expensive on average, you would be making my point. Say Wagner was 95% the player that Cobb was. His cards likely don't reflect that. Much in the way that Aaron, Mays, Musial, Williams and others in the long run were easily better on the field than Mickey Mantle. But you wouldn't know that looking at prices in the garden variety 1950's Topps set.

While the stats are the stats, we're all certainly aware that many of these players' contemporaries would have said it was the other way around. There are obviously factors to be considered with such an assessment, but the argument was always there.

Actually Willie Mays did play on a powerhouse of a team. Some of the names - Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey, Felipe Alou, Matty Alou, Jim Davenport, Juan Marichal, Mike McCormick, Gaylord Perry, Don Larsen, etc. That would/should have been a wrecking crew of a team.

All of the Black Sox players with Joe Jackson a clear number one. Card values clearly blow away, Hornsby, Foxx, Gehrig, etc. and his numbers were nowhere close to any of those guys. Batting average isn’t everything and he doesn’t have them by much anyway.
