Wow. I have that Billy Ripken postcard, but I've never seen it with a printed back. That is very cool to me. What a shame they postmarked the front too. Of course, it had to be a Ripken, so no chance you want to part with it. LOL Looks like I add one more to the want list. Currently, I have 2725 out of 2874 team issued postcards. |

Day 141 (May 20, 2020 – 141)
The Orioles really did have a good year in 1969. The O’s finished the season 109-53 finishing 1st in the AL East. Then the Orioles swept the Twins in three games to win the AL Championship Series. I know we lost to the Mets in five, but still love the 1969 Birds. Think they used a cool photo for the 1969 World Series program. 1969 World Series Program Day 141 a Publication 1969 WS Program 1.jpg 1969 B&W photo which is similar to the World Series Program. Day 141 b Photo 1969 Circle.jpg 1969 B&W Orioles team photo Day 141 c Photo 1969 Orioles Team.jpg What is ironic, the Colts lost to the Jets and the Bullets lost to the Knicks all in 1969; seems like NY had our number that year. |

The 1969 World Series was was tough time for an 11 yr old. I had no concept that the Orioles would lose and remember crying after that last out. One of my friends down the street, came over for moral support. He was a Red Sox fan and fresh off the Sox 1967 loss.
Check out post #947 for other programs from the 1969 World Series. Here are a few other items from the series. Sorry about a couple of the photos. I'm not very good with lighting. Mark....that '69 club may have been the best one ever...Alan, great momentos from the WS (I'm a fan of those black bats)!
Here is a 1977 orange alternate of Scott McGregor (sporting an unfamiliar #39). As an aside, we have an Orioles Sunday Season ticket plan (I'd go more often if I didn't live 150 miles away) and there is a group of loyal Orioles fans we've sat and hung out with for years which we refer to as the "Sunday Fun Day Crew." Since we've been missing each other because we haven't seen each other since September, we started a Zoom call each Sunday where there would have been a home game at 1:05. The Orioles Alumni director participates and each session, he graciously invites a former Oriole player or two to join (which has been a blast). A couple weeks ago, Scott McGregor jumped in and I showed him this jersey & asked him how he went from #39 to #16. He said he was issued #39 when he was traded over, however he always wanted #16 because Whitey Ford was his childhood idol (and he would never get that with the Yankees), so he patiently waited until Tony Muser left the organization to ask for it: ![]() ![]() Last edited by roarfrom34; 05-20-2020 at 07:38 AM. |

Alan...
Last night I was sorting through my postcards to see if there were any unique ones to share with you (and the Board). Back in '91 Cal Jr. did some publicity work with the American Red Cross (Central MD Chapter), which generated some memorabilia including this (un-used) postcard. While certainly not a team issue, I remember Wayne Johnson telling at me at one time that he hadn't seen it before: ![]() ![]() Last edited by roarfrom34; 05-20-2020 at 07:36 AM. |

All though I don't collect Orioles or Brooks Robinson cards, I have read every post of this fascinating thread. I admire the passion that shows through from the serious Brooks/Orioles collectors. I particularly like the Wichita items I have seen posted, having grown up there from 68-75.
I collect Cardinals items, particularly minor league cards and was looking for information on whether any cards or team issues exist for Rochester from 1928-1960 as they were a AAA affiliate for the Cardinals. Any help is appreciated. |

Good afternoon Bill,
I've never seen that version of the Red Cross Cal Ripken postcard before. I see yours is dated 1991. I don't know whether this one was issued the same year or came out a different year, as there's no date anywhere on it. |

As I have been something of a burden to one of the main contributors here (Hi, Alan!) I thought I might try and contribute a little about the main subject here.
Since I got back into the hobby almost 10 years ago, my collecting has gone off in a number of directions. One long term project I started early on was working on a signed 1963 Fleer set. I currently have autographed versions of 63 out of 66 cards in the set . One of the early additions to the set was Brooks Robinson. I sent my card off to a 2102 public signing. ![]() Even though I know it is good, at some point after I realized my signed 1963 Fleer set represented an investment for my eventual heirs, I had it authenticated by PSA. The second Brooks item came to my through the same project. I sent a card off to a private signing with Chris Potter Sports. He ended up losing the card and refunding me my money. At some point later, as he was winding down that business, he found the card and sent it back along with some freebie autographed cards by way of apology. This included a Brooks autographed card which is, without a doubt, the freakiest card I have ever seen. It is a 1998 Fleer SI Art of the Game card. ![]() Seriously, this card haunts my dreams. |

I think Alan (BaltOrioles) posted his example the other day, but I unearthed mine and I thought today would be a good day for posting these examples. These are blank back photos were issued by F.R. Woods House of Baseball in 1971. There were twelve unnumbered photos on linen stock which measured 4.25x 7”. 1971 F.R. Woods All-Star Photo Pack Day 142 a Picture 1971 a F.R. Thanks so much for posting in the thread and that's quite a project of getting all of the '63 Fleer set signed. The Fleer Brooksie example looks nice! Do you happen to have the other Orioles in the Fleer set signed? I think Barber, Hansen and Pappas are in the set; possibly more... The Brooks card is a favorite; really like the photo they used and the setup. I think I mentioned it in here somewhere that I started a project to get all of Brooks' regular issue cards signed, but wanted them all in ball point pen. Thought once I get done with that maybe go for sharpie. Think I have most of them, but I still need to get a nice rookie example. Now, I thought the '98 Fleer Brooks card was banned from being shown here ![]() |

Good morning,
I thought today I'd show some oddball 1980's Orioles cards. Here is a 1988 Topps Cloth Jim Dwyer (front and back): 1988 Topps Cloth Jim Dwyer.jpg 1988 Topps Cloth Jim Dwyer_back.jpg And a 1988 Starting Lineup Ray Knight card cut from an uncut sheet. An Orioles Ray Knight SLU figure was never actually produced, so the card was unissued: 1988 SLU Ray Knight_unissued.jpg I believe the other Orioles in the 1988 Topps Cloth set are Mike Hart and Nelson Simmons. How often do you get to mention those two Orioles? |

Good to have you contributing to the thread. You aren't bothering me. I'm happy we could work out a deal that helped us both out and I've made a new friend. I thought I would post this for you today. I know you are a big Paul Blair guy. This is an example of the Orioles block letter jersey used from 1963-1965. Unfortunately, the year tag on this jersey has been torn off. I can see where it was, but without it, I can't be positive of the year or who wore it. It was probably either Joe Gaines or Paul Blair. The jersey is size 38 and Blair was smaller than Gaines, so I'm leaning towards Blair. Either way, I'm happy to have an example in my collection. 19641965 JerseyHome White #6 (Joe GainesPaul Blair) A.jpg 19641965 JerseyHome White #6 (Joe GainesPaul Blair) B.jpg Gaines, Joe 1.jpg Blair, Paul (Don Wingfield).jpg |

Day 143 (May 22, 2020 – 143)
I like going through The Sporting News back in the day and reading some of the articles. One of my favorite things to find in them was the large ads and hopefully there’s one with Brooks or some of the other Oriole player pictured. While I wont usually feature an ad in the thread this is a large ad for the 1973 Rawlings Gold Glove winners. Of the nine American League winners you have four Orioles that won the award; there’s Bobby Grich, Mark Belanger, Paul Blair and Brooks Robinson. 1973 TSN Rawlings ad Day 143 Ad 1973 TSN Rawlings GG Award.jpg Here’s an Orioles parking pass for 1973 just for the fun of it. Here's a set that is on my radar, but that I don't actively pursue. I believe the 1967 Topps Punch-Outs were a test issue in the Maryland area. They were issued in perforated panels of three cards per pack. There are 6 Orioles in the set, along with several photo variations. The Orioles include Luis Aparicio, Steve Barber, Andy Etchebarren, Boog Powell, Frank Robinson and Russ Snyder. Brooks Robinson was supposed to be part of the set and actually appears in the line up on several cards. It is believed that Brooks was never issued. Here's a link to a Bob Lemke article about the cards.
http://boblemke.blogspot.com/2010/12...-5-gain-1.html Someday I may try to complete the Orioles set. Prices and condition have slowed the process. I don't want any that have been punched out. I do have a couple, Andy Etchebarren and Russ Snyder. You will notice that the two Russ Snyders have different line ups as well as a slight photo cropping difference. I'm sure most of the players come in several variations. 1967 Topps Punchboard Cards.jpg |

Day 144 (May 23, 2020 – 144)
This poster was tough for me to get in nice shape when I first started to actively collect. I had one when I was young and moved it from location to location, space to space, at times the ceiling and finally in a cheap frame with a mat to cover all the tack holes. I guess when you’re young you don’t know, or aren’t smart enough, to use the same hole each time (or get it framed in the first place). I’m sure some of you guys know the search for items pre-internet was a daunting task. Anyway, once the internet (thanks Al) came along and then eBay I was “finally”, at long last able to find the poster in nice shape. I’m not sure why the Brooks poster is tough to find while many are a dime a dozen. 1968 Sports Illustrated poster 24”x36” (Sorry for the poorly cropped picture of the poster) Day 144 a Brooks Robinson Sports Illustrated Poster.jpg A publication by Maco Sportsman Series 1967 Baseball Guidebook that uses the same image as the 1968 Sports Illustrated poster. Day 144 b Publication 1967 Maco Baseball Guidebook 1.jpg One more item related is a postcard that pictures a painting by Arthur Miller which he uses the same photo as the SI poster (or at least a portion of it). Day 144 Postcard Arthur K. Miller signed.jpg I’ve also pictured a Sports Collectors Digest (SCD) from May 23, 1977 with a photo of 1961-1962 Fleer basketball cards. Anyone want to wager a guess what this has to do with Brooks? Day 144 c Publication SCD May 23, 1997.jpg |

Back in the 80's, like most of you, my collection was built mainly by attending cards shows. I was at show in 1984 or 85 and a guy was selling hand painted figures of players. They are about 7" tall on a white base. He had gotten the players to sign the base. While the likeness of the player varied, I thought they were cool. I think he was selling them for around $10 each. He had three Orioles and I think I got the three for $25. I wish I knew who the dealer was, but didn't take the time to ask more about his figures
The three included two Cal Ripkens (home & away) and an Eddie Murray (sorry for the glare on the photos, I was too lazy to take them out of the display case). I think Eddie looks a little more like him than Cal. DSCN2231.jpg DSCN2230.jpg DSCN2233.jpg |
