Rob, almost every yard sale I go to I find nothing but junk and waste gas driving around trying to find them. But every now and then I manage to hit a good one. Today was one of those days.

Just crossed a toughie off my list. While I collect a wide range uniforms to augment my reference library, I do have favorite areas. As a Crosley Field era Reds fan, I love Reds/Redlegs home uniforms and visiting NL team uniforms from 1934-1970. Even within this, my favorite subset are the NL road uniforms from 1947-1957.

![]() ![]() So I go to the Alameda Point show today 1/2 hour before it closes...really wasn't expecting to find anything...and I spot this barbell...$75.00...Seller said couldn't do better than $70.00 since it attracted so much attention throughout the day...never seen one with the ball ends for sale before....although plenty of dumbells...so I pulled the trigger...goes with my other strongman stuff...links below...feels like about 100LB...50LB per side...not sure on age...I don't know when they stopped using the ball ends...Would guess it's from around 1890 to 1920... http://www.sportsantiques.com/santell_poster.htm http://www.sportsantiques.com/and_more.htm ![]() ![]()

Interesting pickup Carlton! With the bar bell and the heavy chain (anchor chain?) the vendor certainly deals in heavy metals! I prefer to lug paper and jerseys around to shows myself

Thank you to another Doug for helping this Doug to more than double my collection of North American supplements (each about 10" X 15") from 5 to 11. Thanks also to Leon for connecting us. Here are the 6 that I received today... Doug Last edited by doug.goodman; 06-07-2016 at 01:18 AM. |

Cliff Brady 1924 Detroit Tigers home jersey. Period newspaper accounts place Brady in Augusta, GA with the Tigers during spring training 1924. As Manager, Cobb wanted this as his spring training location. Brady was not optioned out until 3 April, 1924. That was less than two weeks prior to Opening Day (15 April), so the 1924 uniform order would have already been placed.

Recent JSA authentication - posted this ball elsewhere to this forum asking opinions as to whether this is a ball point pen? JSA stated it was a steel-tip fountain pen, but the start of the crossing of the 'T' leads me to believe its not. It seems the pen made a perfect circle, not sure how that happens with a steen-tip fountain pen. Any input would be appreciated.

Picked up 2 Hank Aaron items for this month. The first is an original 1958 Hartland statue, high step version. It's been glued to a white plastic platform, but I got it for a really good price and it still looks nice. I've only got the magnet version left to find. The second item is not really "vintage". It's the Aaron bobblehead from the Lakeshore Chinooks game on 6/4/16. I've got all of the current Aaron bobblheads except the "Catman" one.

Picked up these nice Tryon Sporting Goods shin guards this weekend. I believe they date to the '20's. I also understand that Tryon is the oldest sporting goods dealer in the U.S., dating to the early 1800's.

![]() ![]() c1900 Euro tin, 12 inch tall ![]() ![]() ![]() Went down south to the Rose Bowl Flea this past weekend...Barely even saw anything interesting...much less to buy...However I did run around to some antiques malls in L.A....Santa Monica, Pasadena, Hermosa Beach, Sherman Oaks...all nothing...But in a store in Pasadena a gal had a small collection of about ten European tins...and I spotted this c1900 12" tall mountaineering one...Mountaineering stuff is hard to find...but what a sport!!!...man against mountain....Now if I can just find some great tobogganing or dog sled race piece! http://www.bamfords-auctions.co.uk/b...ectionery-tin/ I found another example on line, below...and as you can see originally it had a lid...The auction in which this better condition one sold...listed it as a Fryer's tin...I couldn't find any reference to Fryer's but did find a "Fryers" candy company in Nelson, Lancashire England that likely produced this tin.... ![]() http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk...true_pioneers/ Fryer and Co (Nelson) Ltd, Victory V Factories, had its origins way back in 1830 when Nelson man Thomas Fryer met a travelling confectioner over a pint of beer and they decided to open a small shop in the town making peppermints and lozenges. Eventually Fryer built a factory but when he ran out of cash 20 years later, Dr Edward Smith bought the business for £1,000 and ran it with his brother William Their formula for combining ether, liquorice and chloroform – it took five to seven days for the whole process – to produce Victory V Lozenges was still being used in 1959. William took full control of the company in 1864 and it became a private company in 1906. When he retired two years later, Jack became manager. Down the years, the company had many notable firsts – it was the first to make jelly babies, slab toffee and decorated tins as sweet packaging.

Program and ticket stub. I know it's not as desirable as the June 8, 1969 ticket, but still a nice Mantle item in my opinion and a small piece of Yankees history.
![]() Also picked up a stub to Joe DiMaggio Day, a day on which the Yankees won the pennant by beating the Red Sox. I've had this ratty condition press photo of DiMaggio giving a speech that day for a while. Love the jacket. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by YankeeFan; 06-15-2016 at 10:15 PM. |

Harry Caray began broadcasting Chicago White Sox games in 1971. Working with him in the booth during 1971 and 1972 was Ralph Faucher, veteran Chicago area sports announcer and sports director for WTAQ, LaGrange.
According to Ralph, he and Harry kept a scorecard during every game. They used the scorecard information throughout the game; also, Faucher did the post game show using the scorecard info. Below is an example of the historical scorecards from that 1972 season. The near complete set of detailed scorecards from that year also includes a few spring training games. In 1972, Richie Allen was AL MVP and Wilbur Wood topped the AL with 24 wins, 376 IP during a successful White Sox season. Images below display front and back of one of the 1972 detailed scorecards (11 x 12 inches), 5/30/72 Angels vs White Sox.
