1 - Some guys here would never buy a trimmed card, some would depending on condition.
2 - Card graders slam trimmed cards A, if a card is trimmed from its origional size. So what about cards that have to be hand cut?? Why do some get an A and some get a grade? Example - http://www.ebay.com/itm/BABE-RUTH-19...item589e2af1df Every card there was hand cut as they came from a box to the owner not cut in a factory.

In this case, the SGCs are graded and GAI is authentic. Maybe GAI's policy was ANY/ALL hand-cut cards are "authentic" only and they did not assign grades for them as standard policy.
Do you have any examples from the same grading company (a hand-cut in one case as authentic and another as graded)? THAT would be the real poser (IMO). |

IMO anything that is hand cut should be "A" at best.
The problem is that there seems to be a floating criteria even within the same grading house, sometimes they are assigning grades, sometimes not. Also, hate to say it but at times I think who the submitter is makes a difference. Others will disagree.

![]() Im no grader, and that scan sucks, but in person that card is EX-Mint, unless they are looking to see the dotted lines, where the cutter cut right on it so they are missing, except for the bottom where u can still see the dots. No idea why this is an A card

There are still standard sizes, even for hand-cut issues. For any hand cut card to receive a number grade, it must be cut right along the dotted lines and generally should still show part of the dotted line on it's lateral edges.
Not saying that I agree wit the policy, but I agree with it to some extent insofar as it helps ensure uniformity among cards that receive number grades. Otherwise, you could theoretically crop any existing strip card and send it in for a massive grade increase. There have to be standard sizes. |

There are standard sizes, plus if the card had a cut line it should be present or at least cut on the line, where you can still see line all the way. This issue comes up all the time an I fail to see the problem. Are there mistakes out there that should not have numerical grades due to being cut too small, yes. But there are mistakes in every area of the grading world, its done by humans.Regardless of ones position this is the position that has been taken by the grading companies and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
