Default 1965 Topps Transfers

I have never read that the transfers set has any short- or over-prints, but as I try to assemble a set the population counts vary wildly.

I did a quick eBay count and this is what I found:

haller 0
king 0
radatz 0
rodgers 0
aspromonte 1
chance d 1
howard 1
kline 1
white 1
wickersham 1
williams 1
bond 2
christopher 2
colavito 2
jackson 2
maye 2
robinson f 2
allison 3
alvis 3
bouton 3
causey 3
kranepool 3
mays 3
mazeroski 3
otoole 3
segui 3
wagner 3
aaron 4
fregosi 4
allen 5
bunning 5
cepeda 5
drysdale 5
freehan 5
kaline 5
pappas 5
spangler 5
veale 5
gibson 6
pinson 6
skowron 6
oliva 7
tiant 7
powell 8
torre 8
yaz 8
pizarro 10
richardson 10
marichal 11
groat 12
knoop 13
koufax 13
conigliaro 14
maloney 15
pascual 15
mantle 16
aparicio 17
carty 17
clemente 17
hunt 17
robinson b 17
roseboro 17
stuart 20
callison 25
killebrew 28
boyer 30
santo 35
davis 37
ward 58
hinton 62
chance b 91
peters 111

To me, this looks like at least some were printed in greater quantities than the others. I should point out that one particular eBay seller has the majority of the quantities of the top 6 or so and I am going to try to reach out to inquire if there's a story there.

Bottom line - what do we think?

I am also currently in the process of trying to complete the set.

I have noticed the exact same thing as you. Some just seem impossible to find.

I have no idea how they were printed. 72 different transfers would lead to many possible sheet sizes if they were printed in sheets.

I had the same issue a few years ago with the 1966 rub offs. There was a group of 20 that were much more difficult to find.

Like the rub-offs the transfers were printed in long strips - several small sections can be found on eBay - here's a longish one...you would think they'd run through all 72 and start over so the same would be printed of each.

Default 1965 topps transfers

I admit I l know very little about these. However, Beckett intimates that these were printed in series of 24. Is that possible? And they were placed in different series waxpacks?? If true, then perhaps the later series were printed in smaller quantities.
