Default Pittsburgh Crawfords broadside

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with these broadsides.

I have had it for almost a year and it is real and authentic. I sent pictures of it to Heritage Auction and they wanted to list it but I don't want to sell. The person I spoke to there said he had never seen one in his 40 years of experience. I thought Net54 might know more.

Ok you say authentic...but did you ever have it or the Signatures Authenticated? Sending pictures to Heritage is very different from Having Guys from Heritage handle it. I have owned and still own alot of Satchel Paige signatures and none look like yours...I know signatures can and do change over time....but...
Then there is the broadside. It would have to be from 1933 1934 or 1936. And I find it strange it would say Negro League. Most NL Broadsides list the specific League the crawfords represent like American Negro Leauge. Etc. Add that to font and overall condition.....I don't like it
Jmho..

I know this is a weird thing to notice but the fact Negro League doesn't have an S is off putting to me. Almost any mention of the league that is old refers to it as the Negro Leagues.

But I mean that's not a strong base to say it's fake at all just a detail I noticed. I can tell by the fold it's definitely not a recent creation.

Hard to say if its authentic from pictures. However, it was an advanced advertising piece (probably mass produced) where the local sponsor could fill in the appropriate information. Looks like this one is blank, which of course means that it wasn't used. Gibson passed in 1947 and basically wasn't able to do anything because of illness beginning in 1943. Since this was a touring piece my best guess would be from the late 30s to very early 40s. Maybe checking the print dot process, paper composition etc. might help in authentication.

Satchel Paige and Cool Papa Bell played together on Pittsburgh, 3 seasons 33 34 36. All the Pittsburgh broadside from that period that I have seen, list their leauge affiliation and since they won championships in 33 35 and 36. Most likely it would have included "Champions" this is an Advertisement after all. And their owner was a outstanding at marketing. And he knew he put together a Great ...Great Team!! This seems way to plain to be from those specific years.

I agree Johnathon. However, why would someone reproduce a modern-day piece so plain? That's kind of my only reason that makes me think it COULD be real - not that it is.

There were a good amount of Negro League reproduction posters and broadsides produced in the 1970’s when there was a resurgence in interest. Meaning the signatures could be good on a piece produced from then and still look old as it would be 50 year old now.
