Default Who's attending Strongsville and expectations?

Hi i'm going to be attending the Strongsville show Friday and saturday morning and wanted to see if any other Net54'ers will be there since its a large vintage show.

For those of you who have gone, and are going what are your expectations price and selection wise? From what i gathered there will be every type of vintage card under the sun there, but prices will likely be higher because so many people fly in for the show. Please let me know your thoughts, thanks!

Living in CA, the drive is a bit too far for me, but if any dealers have m113 or m114 posters and anybody has the time to pass on their email or website info to me, I would appreciate it.

I'll be there all day Saturday. I've gone for years. Pretty much anything vintage you are looking for. Prices never felt higher than other show prices. Most stickers are high, but some deals to be had, too.

I attended my first Strongsville show last year and had a blast. I thought the pricing was, for the most part, reasonable compared to the shows I frequent in Michigan. Like you said, expect a very wide selection. I ended up purchasing two cards (a 1938 Goudey DiMaggio and a 1954 Topps Kaline) and trading for two cards (an E95 Christy and a 1954 Topps Aaron). Can't wait to go back again this year.

Going for Friday only.
Making the drive early Friday morning and will be there until closing time.

Attended the show for the first time last year, Friday only, and enjoyed every minute spent there. Well worth the time as I enjoy collecting cards from prewar though 1970s cards and was told this is the show you have to attend.

Going to look for unique Detroit Tigers related items, along with a few cards need for a few sets to complete.
Bringing a few cards to submit to SGC as well.

Looking forward to Friday.

I will be there Friday for sure, maybe another day. Always have good luck at this show, I have bought, sold and traded. Lots of stuff with big prices, but a lot of the dealers are willing to deal.

I attended for the first time last year. As has been said about the National, don’t expect the show to have everything. It was slightly smaller than I was expecting, with the usual glut of 50s through 70s stuff. It’s a solid show, and certainly worth attending, but keep expectations reasonable. I definitely found my share of goodies, but I didn’t find it to be the mecca that some people make it out to be, and came home with cash in my pocket. Just my two cents…your mileage may vary.

I’ll be there Friday only, looking for 1948-1949 Leaf oddities. Leaf Premiums, Pirates and misprints. I also have a short list of Diamond Stars I have to track down. I’ll be rocking a red Yankee hat and a re:LEAF shirt, I will have some books with me as well in case anyone wants to pick one up!! See you all there!

Default Strongsville

Fellow hobbyists- I'm encouraged to read (most) of these messages, can't wait
to be there and interact with folks. Regarding expectations, I can't recall
anyone stating "everything" will be at Strongsville (?), the statement is
non sequitir. Vintage collectors from most sports would have to go out of their
way to be dissatisfied with the quality of this show (and I'm not a dealer there
and have no financial interest in the show itself). Enjoy, it is what card shows
should be

Just sent a PM, but I saw a Wagner/Carrigan T202 Triple Folder you have on your table via a Youtube video. Would love to discuss a purchase.

Default Strongsville observations

I attended the show today through the early admission option. My thoughts:

1) INCREDIBLE vintage and prewar card selection in multiple sports

2) More memorabilia than I recall in past shows

3) Dealers were willing to deal

4) SGC is there accepting submissions, as is JSA. I submitted to SGC and
found the employees to be helpful. The process was quick too.

5) I came away with great stuff, including a grail card.

If you can make it, go!

I made the 3 1/2 hour drive over this morning for the noon opening and I stayed till 3.45 after finding some nice signed vintage cards, so it was worth the trip. I had last been to Strongsville about 15 years ago and it was mostly what I expected, except I thought it was supposed to be a vintage only show? I was really surprised to see a fair amount of modern 'shiny' stuff in several cases and I was even more surprised to see one dealer in the middle of the rink with a couple showcases full of only Pokemon. WTF? How did this guy get a table at this show?

Anyways, a good day overall and an easy drive both ways. Here's a couple of my pickups.

Matt-

Pokemon is rolling like crazy- not my thing, but a building juggernaut. Outside
of it, I didn't see much shiny stuff at all. If I had, I would simply have walked

Dealers are allowed to bring a bit of new stuff, but I would say something to the promoters if someone is here with just modern, whether it's Pokemon or sports. That is against what we agree to as dealers.

Which dealer had the Pokemon table? I am surprised that was allowed.

Here are my thoughts on Strongsville. Excellent vintage show with just about anything you are looking for.

It was packed. They waited too long to expand locations, and they may need to expand again. Lots of cards moving, and set builders out in full force. Good variety of high end, mid end, and low end stuff.

This take may not be popular, but I have a feeling some might complain about a bit more modern sneaking in this year. Heck, there was even a Pokemon table. But I thought it was the perfect amount of modern. Here's why. I've been coming to Strongsville for years. I have never seen so many kids. And not just kids drug there by their parents, but kids engaged in the vintage hobby. A lot of vintage dealers brought a modern value box or two to rifle through. And kids would look through those boxes, then begin looking at the vintage. I heard them asking questions. I saw fathers educating sons on players and cards of the past. The hobby was being passed down to the next generation in a way I haven't seen at other shows. I loved it. My wife noticed it and pointed it out. She saw a little boy digging in a vintage box who found a card he liked. He asked the dealer if it was a dollar. He was told it was $10. He didn't have the money. My wife overheard and bought it for him. This hobby is so great.

My main pickup wasn't super expensive, but a rare one I've been looking for. It is especially hard to find in decent shape.

1967 Venezuela Dave Concepcion

He was just a teenager in the Venezuelan Winter League, 4 years before his major league rookie card. Davey was my mom's favorite player, so this is a special card for my collection. This copy is really clean, and unlike many Venezuelans, it has no paper loss on the back at all.

^^^^^ Nice card. I was a huge fan of the Big Red Machine when I was a kid, and of Concepcion in particular. Bench, Rose, Morgan & Foster used to get all the attention, but to me Davey was the glue on those teams. And kudos to your wife--a very nice gesture on her part.

This is encouraging! Thank you for sharing this. Thanks to your wife for making a little boy's day. Now that boy might go further into the vintage side of the hobby.

From what I have seen posted, raw was in demand again at strongsville. I talked to two dealers who set up, they couldn’t keep up with the raw demand.

As shown by the grading numbers, guys are submitting left and right. I expect raw to continue to be wanted.
