Default Pete Rose Documentary Hit King

Has anyone watched the new Pete Rose documentary on HBO Max? I made it through the first few episodes last night. I've learned things, if true, about Rose that I wasn't aware of. I'm changing my mind a little bit regarding Rose. Especially if the drug transactions that is accused of making and the statutory rape are true. If nothing else, they leave a little thought in my mind that he definitely wasn't a saint by any means. If measured simply by his play on the field he should be allowed in the Hall - however society doesn't measure a person simply by that as evidenced by Bonds, McGwire, Clemmons, etc. etc.

Anyone else have thoughts on the series?

He was known for traveling with a 16 yo girl. He says he was only intimate with her in states it was legal. One of the girls he traveled with said it really started when she was 14. Because times have changed that part of his history seems to get forgotten or at least not brought up when everyone knew about it back in the day.

I spend a week with Elroy Face about 15 years ago. He told me some crazy stories about Roberto Clemente. Similar to these. I think Face had an ax to grind, however. I also think he pilfered a lot of stuff my uncle accumulated over the years. So...14 year old girls or humanitarian? A contemporary of Rose, for sure.

I found it to be common in the 70s and 80s. Have heard stories that it was extremely common before that. Then around here and other places I have been it started being a taboo thing in the early 90s. When I was in High School it was fairly common for the girls to be dating and sometimes even living with guys in their late 20s and 30s. Thankfully it is something I never see anymore.

When I was in high school in the 70s, and this was a very upscale suburban area, my best friend's younger sister was going out with a 24 year old guy. Neither of us knew what to make of it, but the parents clearly knew.

It's incredible how many older films -- but even into the '90s -- depicted these types of normalized relationships. An absurd example: I happened to flip onto Coneheads from 1993 a couple weeks back, and the aliens' high school daughter is dating Chris Farley's adult mechanic character. Farley would've been 28 when it was filmed. Weird s--t ... or just up Pete Rose's alley.
