first, i have never crossed over a card in my life
second, i tend to prefer SGC for my collection. this Fisk o-pee-chee rookie is the card in question. it’s a PSA 9 OC. when i “measure” this, i get it at somewhere between 70/30 and 70/25 left to right. top to bottom and the back look good to me. first question: is this really so OC to the point of triggering the qualifier? if it had shaggy edges like other o/pee-chee not sure it was have gotten this but not sure second question: i have all my fisks in SGC 8. i know that often we say a qualifier drops two grades if you don’t use the qualifier, so this would be a “7”. if it’s a “9” otherwise, would this is have a realistic shot at getting an “8” with SGC of i looked to cross it? third questions: would i be better off to crack it and submit it raw if this was my goal to get a “8” at SGC? just wanted to solicit some opinions to help me decide if it’s worth the gamble. not exactly a huge cost issue either way, but no need to just throw money away if not realistic. thanks in advance |

Just a thought… why don’t you sell that and buy a nicely centered 8.

not a horrible idea…and to be fair i haven’t looked in the last couple of weeks….but i haven’t found a opeechee 8. i know we aren’t taking huge dollars one way or the other…but $15ish to crossover/grade seemed better. maybe not

Situations like this where one has a firm endpoint in mind, I agree with the comment already made, to just purchase the outcome you want and be done with it. It's such a hassle to grade/cross on one's own---all the effort put in to the forms, packing, shipping, waiting, and then in the end you may not get what you're after and you'll regret the wasted effort (and least that would be me)
Of course, I don't know the pop count for that in sgc 8 and so how long you'd have to wait for one to surface... |

Pop report on an SGC 8 is only 6 total with none higher with 40 graded total.
I would NEVER send a card to SGC in a PSA holder. That being said you have a conundrum here. It is honestly a very nice looking card and most likely could have gotten a straight PSA 8. That OC in this case is certainly borderline. You could send it back to PSA and ask for no qualifier but why? It's a MINT 9. I feel the OC is a bit BS to be honest. SGC would grade this a 6 to an 8 and most likely a 7 but it might be worth the risk if you need an 8. If this were my card, I'd be proud to own it. You have a good eye. I'd probably break it out and get an honest grade from SGC. It would look a heck of a lot better even in a 6 or a 7 SGC holder. My opinion only. Please keep us posted. ![]() PS I love "shaggy" edges and usually factory fresh shaggy edges help a card that has never been tampered with. This card BELONGS in an SGC holder. Every breakout and resubmit is always a huge crapshoot, and the cynic in me knows nothing will go your way, so you'll never be guaranteed an 8 or even a 7. One thing is certain. The moment you break the card out, it is no longer the grade it was, so if it comes back lower, you've only shot yourself in the foot. Presently, it is a high grade card that is barely O/C, so it is an undeniably decent asset for a Fisk fan.
Are you in a rush for something to happen? If not, perhaps time is your friend, as it will allow you to see if an SGC 8 becomes available. Also, since PSA cards are generally considered to be more valuable, perhaps you can use your card in a trade to grab the SGC 8 you want? On the other side of the coin, I have found SGC to be pretty reliable vintage graders, so if you examine the card closely and think it deserves the grade you're targeting, perhaps sending it in might be the right move for you personally. Good luck in your quest!!
