I just watched FORD VS FERRARI (2019). My son is a race car fan, and this was recommended to us. My son was glued to the TV.
If you want a mature movie that is plot driven, watch WHIPLASH (2014) starring Miles Teller. It's about a late teen boy who wants to be a famous drummer and the cut throat world he enters to gain recognition. It gave my wife anxiety. She said she knows people like the antagonist. But warning, it's got foul language. Sent from my SM-G9900 using Tapatalk

"Whiplash" was great.
Best movie I've seen recently is "Banshees of Inisherin". If you like character studies, gruff Irish lingo, and the caustic chemistry between Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason...then you'll like this one. If you don't care for any of those things...you won't like this one. ![]() Not as fun and a lot more serious then "In Bruges", but still pretty good. |

Will gladly recommend some movies to everyone.
The Pianist with Adrien Brody was excellent. It's a bit of a heavy watch, surrounding a Jewish Pianist attempting to escape the Nazi Regime in Germany. Trumbo starring Bryan Cranston, about Dalton Trumbo and the group of Hollywood writers/producers that were blackballed because of the Red Scare in the United States. Absolutely stellar cast, does a great job of capturing that old Hollywood feel. And if you wouldn't remind me recommending a documentary, I would strongly recommend, Sound City, especially if you are a big fan of Late 70's/Early 80's classic rock. It's all about this one recording studio that had the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and REO Speedwagon, record there.

I'll recommend two series found on Netflix. "Black Mirror" and "Criminal" both series with great storytelling. Would also recommend "Flag Day" with Sean Penn and his daughter Dylan who does a fantastic job of acting. - Last edited by Casey2296; 06-21-2023 at 05:44 PM. |

I just accompanied my daughter to see "The Flas" - not my cup of tea but she enjoyed it.
I stumbled across a great movie, "Breaking", a true story that is a great watch. "Based on the 2017 real-life story of the late Brian Brown-Easley, a decorated Marine Corps veteran in dire financial straits resulting from systemic failure. Easley is concerned over the effects of this on his daughter alongside the prospects of homelessness to the point of threatening to blow up a Wells Fargo bank unless he receives payment he is owed from the Department of Veterans Affairs." This should be on your "must watch" list. |

The Verdict with Paul Newman is back on Max. I believe it's his best role. His courtroom summation is one of the best pieces of acting prowess you'll ever see.

Also, on YOUTUBE there's a very meaningful and relevant documentary about Ford vs. Ferrari, not the movie but the story. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to you and your son, Tim. It's entitled "THE 24 HOUR WAR". It was produced when several of the main people involved were still alive and lucid. It's a combo of excellent interviews and race footage. I think it's just shy of 100 minutes long, and worth every second. Please pop some popcorn and give it a watch. ![]() |

Now that I've gotten firmly into my "crotchety old man" phase, I have to say that I have been pretty disappointed with recent movies. However a couple that were pleasant surprises:
AIR - the new Amazon Prime movie about MJ and Nike is very, very good. Damon and Affleck are great together as always and the rest of the cast is excellent. If you are a fan of brainy sci-fi ARRIVAL is back on free Prime Video. My favorite genre and that one is one of the best, if not the best of the last decade. Not one if you like shootouts with the aliens. |

So you want a movie recommendation...
How about a movie that has a cast that includes all of these people: Milton Berle Mickey Rooney Spencer Tracy Ethel Merman Jonathan Winters Sid Caesar Buddy Hackett Carl Reiner Phil Silvers Don Knotts The 3 Stooges Jack Benny Jimmy Durante Jim Backus William Demarest Jesse White Norman Fell Peter Falk Buster Keaton Jerry Lewis Joe E Brown Sterling Holloway and others... Yep, such a movie does exist. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

How about a movie with Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau, James Coburn and George Kennedy...and in the style of a classic Hitchcock movie...and it's every bit as good.

John---Charade is a good choice. I like that movie as well; the music is mesmerizing. You'll laugh; my favorite scene is when Audrey Hepburn and her friend rush to see Monsieur Felix, and he's there looking lovingly at those incredibly rare stamps he had traded with Jean-Louis. As a collector, I loved listening to him briefly describe why each stamp was so significant, and their incredible value. I remember his line, "Oh, the value is unimportant" to convey their priceless nature. Yeah, good selection, John. --- Brian Powell

Been watching "The Black List" Netflix series lately and it has been great so far.
I had no idea this series began in 2013 but sadly was ended last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PveqHsANmI

My goodness, there have been some fantastic movies mentioned. "The Verdict" several times and for good reason - one of my favorites.
Here a couple of great movies, maybe not big at the box office, but fantastic and well worth the watch: "The Three burials of Melquiades Estrada" If you like Tommy Lee Jones and Barry Pepper this one you have to watch. "Valdez is Coming" Burt Lancaster in one of his best roles. "American History X" The best movie Edward Norton has ever made. Check them out, WARNING - "American History X" is not for children! |

I went to see the new Aliens movie a couple weeks ago. I thought it was an OK movie. Not really a big fan of that franchise though. But my buddy thought it was a very good movie and he's a fan of those movies.
We were going to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this weekend but putting it off until next Saturday because we're going to Fenway Wednesday for the Sox game. Madame Web was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen in the theater. I slept for a hour and a half during it and still saw too much. Two fairly recent movies I would recommend would be "Violent Night" and "Bullet Train". Both did very little at the box office when they came out last year, but I thought they were really entertaining. Both movies are Action/Comedy movies that are pretty violent. Here's a trailer for Bullet Train: https://youtu.be/0IOsk2Vlc4o And for "Violent Night": https://youtu.be/a53e4HHnx_s Last edited by edtiques; 09-07-2024 at 09:33 AM. |

One of the funnest action movies I've seen in recent history is "Nobody" with Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad).
Came out during the early part of the pandemic so "nobody" really saw it until it hit their streaming platform. Odenkirk makes a strangely compelling action star. Just imagine Saul Goodman stepping in for Keanu Reeves in kind of an anti-John Wick movie, if you can possibly imagine that. Trailer below: https://youtu.be/wZti8QKBWPo?si=UQ-wjb7WdI4G3Z0S
