See attached picture. It is card # 403 Dick Nen and the 2nd "N" and his position are mostly missing very similar to the Ed Spezio (#128) printing error. I could not find a listing for, reference to or another example of the Nen. I checked it under a 20X loupe - What you see is how the card was printed. Anyone have any information or insight? Al? Bob? Dave? Anyone?

I got one in VG-EX on eBay a couple of years ago that was incorrectly listed as a 1963 Topps Error but still had to pay close to $100 to be the high bidder. I don’t think I’ve seen one since, very scarce. I saw a high grade one sell for $750 years ago on eBay. ETA, I think it’s related to the 1967 Topps Aurelio Monteagudo-Dick Howser missing border print errors, they were all on the same 5th Series sheet and are equally very scarce.

Yes, I should have noted the Schofield as part of the Monteagudo-Howser print error combo.

I can't believe I've never seen that one. I blame Al for not keeping me up to date.

Schofield/Monteagudo/Howser were in columns 4, 5, & 6 in the print row headed by Bob Johnson. The card to the left of Schofield is Walker (448) and the card to the right of Howser is Lou Johnson (410). Nen is in column 10 of a completely row. This row was headed by the 5th series checklist. Nen is sandwiched between Pete Ward (436) and Tiant (377). The card above him on the sheet in all 3 cases is Cards Rookies (384). I doubt that the Nen error is related to the others but perhaps there is a Tiant, Ward, or Cards Rookies missing black error lurking to be discovered?? |
