I wanted a Western Association player, so K.C. is one of the cities, right? Denver or Sioux City would've been pretty cool, too, but Kansas City it is. Except I didn't realize that K.C. also had an American Association team, and the only ways to tell the difference are either the uniforms or the rosters. Long story short, I got lucky.

This time.

Edited to add: Nope. Incorrect. Wrong. Upon further review, American Association.

Default 1st Greenberg

The back is beat but I got a really good price on it. I've been eyeing a Greenberg card for a while, happy to say I now own one.

Default Hurricane Ian

My pick up is electricity. It has been restored to my house in the aftermath of major hurricane Ian. It makes ALL the difference. I have been told that because our neighborhood is just across the street from Gulf Coast Hospital, we are on what is called "the hospital grid". I now believe it, as we have power when so many do not. We have air conditioning, washer/dryer, lights, YouTube TV, Amazon Prime, wifi, email, internet, all the things we take for granted. Our house made it through this, the roof, the pool cage, the big oak tree in back. The only damage is our wooden fence in the back yard is destroyed; tossed around like kindling. It was flattened by Irma, rebuilt, and now gone. There were a million shingles in the yard from other houses, and a million leaves from the oak tree, shrubs, and bushes. We live between US 41 and I-75. This was the mother of all hurricanes. We know now that storm surge simply isn't a problem for us where we are, but across US 41 is where the devastation begins. Along Fort Myers Beach, Estero Island, downtown, Whiskey Creek and along the Caloosahatchee River into Cape Coral, and the islands of Sanibel, Captiva and Pine Island, it looks like Hiroshima or Nagasaki at the end of WW2, just absolute destruction. We are so fortunate where we live here in the Brookshire community. I was in the Navy for 26 years...typhoons in the Pacific, hurricanes and superstorms in the Atlantic...wildfires in California...I could go on and on. Hurricane Ian was by far the worst tropical storm I ever went through. In the eyewall, with winds well over 100 mph, it sounded like a freight train. I thought the house was going to shake apart. But we made it. And day 3 after, we have running water and electricity and all that goes with that. Still only a few gas stations and other places open, with lines that go for blocks. But we made it. My pick up is electricity.

Jim, you are definitely one of the lucky ones.

I picked up a few new Cobb’s, plus a few others that I haven’t had the opportunity to snapshot yet.

There aren't many cards I would call "cute", but that little Cobb is one. haha

live along Treeline just north of Daniels Parkway, everything ok, except no city water. That sucks. 2nd Hurricane since we lived here, Irma 2017, then this one.

Glad you're okay, Joe. You're even further inland than we are. We consider ourselves blessed here given all the destruction west of us.

Thank you, Jay for my 1st Old Judge and oldest card all in one purchase.

To top it off, it's most likely a distant relative of sorts and shared last name.

Win-Win-Win.

A F7 1937 Dixie Lids of Colorful Infield Star Charles Gehringer, part of a lot won in the recent Brockelman Auction. Missing most of the tab, because the kid was really hungry that day for a dainty cup packed with 3 ounces of ice cream.

Overcompensation for not buying a Cy Young portrait in the same state. Beautiful card and the causal eye so far has been impressed.

This image has always fascinated me, what's the deal with the guy in the background pulling off the Elaine from Seinfeld dance move?
Nice pick up btw.

Thanks! Such a strange 'ghost-like' image. Very interesting indeed.

Even more strange I seem to remember a post showing this image without the guy in the background.

Maybe that dude was blurred into oblivion (new slang term) in later versions of this.

My guess is the guy in the background was throwing/warming up, and his image was blurry. Someone in the production of this Ruth insert decided to eliminate the blur by drawing in the part of his uniform that was 'in-motion'. Quite creepy...they should have left that player's image blurry.

Agreed. Looks a little like Dutch Ruether.

As we know, it was not uncommon for pitchers to warmup in front of the dugout, and he may have been doing that when Ruth was asked to mug for the camera (note he is nowhere near the ondeck circle). Obviously the pitcher was not about to unload one into the back of the Babe's head, but it is not illogical to think that he was going through (threw) the motions. Still, as noted, his legs look kittywampus.

Had a few better-than-expected grades come in on some stuff I was looking to sell and found myself with the funds to obtain this guy, my first of the four ‘33 Goudeys.
