Default 106-Year-Old New York Yankees Fan Who Saw Babe Ruth Live

Thought this might be an interesting read for Ruth enthusiasts and some interesting videos in it

It is a pretty cool article, Jeff, and thanks for posting it up. I like the guy. Looking pretty darned good for 106, and pretty sharp of mind too.

Thanks for sharing. I love the comment that he "was not a showboat", and likely was pointing two strikes at the Cubs dugout.

I also found it interesting that, at the time, the third base coach didn't reach out to the hitter to shake hands on the home run trot. If that were typical, I now wonder when that became (almost) standard.

Bob

You are very observant
I did not pay that close attention

Now I have to go back and replay it to see those and see what else I missed

The third base coach can be seen greeting Bobby Thompson after his Shot Heard ‘Round the World in 1951, and ditto for Tommy Heinrich in game 1 of the 1949 World Series. Now whether or not that was standard by that time, you got me there.

I agree with one of the comments...whether or not he was indicating to the Cubs where he was going to hit one out is irrelevant. He did it, against the famous Wrigley Field wind. Lou Gehrig: "Imagine the big monkey indicating he was going to hit a home run, and then doing it."
