Default OT - Do Not Make A Bad Call (1940)

This fan was obviously upset. Note people laughing and some kind of security guard watching.

Maybe alcohol induced rage or just a really bad call? Tough crowd in Brooklyn.

Really Interesting story.
Thanks for sharing those LINKS
IF I was that umpire I am not sure I would have dropped the charges but I would not have shaken his hand

Reminds me of this 1865 Harper's Weekly woodcut of a game between the Brooklyn Atlantic and Philadelphia Athletic. When you look closely, there's one guy knocking out the other.

What was the attendance ? End of the game, mid September pennant race. Looks like all the fans dispersed quickly…

Wow! Amazing picture and story.

Offhanded observation, does anyone else see a resemblance in the security guard to a young John Wayne?

Wow, and that was against the Reds...imagine if it was against the Giants. Those Brooklyn fans could be a bit prickly at times. Case in point.
