Default T205 - Pics of my set

I used to go to several big shows a year here on the east coast from the late 80's to early 00's back in the days before grading became so prevalent..I haven't been to a show in at least 15 years...but got the itch to go to one this year and really wanted to go to Chantilly back in July as that was always a favorite of mine but life intervened...feeling bummed I decided to do something I had never done before...and dragged out all of my T205 cards at one time to lay them out and see what they looked like and take some pics and little video as it may not happen again..so I cleared off the 4 x 8 ft dining room table and had no idea the 290 cards would take up the entire table...it took me from 1985 to 2001(that's when I brokedown and bought the Hoblitzell no stats to finish the master set at that time of 219) to acquire 219 of the now 221 cards for a master set...glad I decided to do it as it looks pretty decent and did make me feel a little better about missing the Chantilly show...not much of a photographer but here they are.

Only 21 of the 290 shown are graded as I prefer them in their natural habitat but some were just not available in decent condition without being slabbed and any others I obtained were part of auction lots and decided to keep for now.

Thanks to Dan McKee I have added one card (Wilhelm-suffered) since this pic was taken and now need just the Mathewson Cycle 1 loss for a master set of 221 cards. I might have to update the pic if I ever get that last card.

I should mention that my girlfriend gets the credit for the T-shirt I'm wearing.

This is absolutely gorgeous! And kudos to you for not getting them graded. With that collection, it's easy to see that you know what's authentic and in "eye appeal" condition without anyone having to tell you. Missing the show turned out to be a blessing, as you got to accomplish what you set out to do originally -- enjoy your cards!

Incredible work! I recently did the same - same size table! Of course, I still have 33 holes in the set but still. Great pics.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

I am indeed proud of assembling this master set -1. The picture also includes 2 Drum back cards, 2 Hindu back cards, a blank back card and a nice Sweet Caporal pack. I have a Hall of Famer for each of the 11 different tobacco brands.

I can't remember exactly when I bought my first graded card but it was a T205 card and I'm sure I was 200+ cards into the set at the time with the goal of completing it raw.

The cost of getting all my T205's graded thru PSA would be astronomical at this time...even SGC which I prefer due to eye appeal would be several thousand dollars...I don't intend to sell anytime soon so I just can't justify that cost...and more importantly I simply prefer the cards where they can be held anytime I desire in the same manner as intended 110 years ago when issued...I try to hold on to the delusion that having them that way makes it more of a hobby and less of an investment...now where did I put my rose colored glasses

Wonderful work and presentation. I have a hunch one of the AH's will come up with a Matty Cycle 1 loss within the next year. They are out there. Good luck hunting.
