Is #123 the greatest number in Topps History for Rookies?
Baseball - 1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax Basketball - 1970 Topps #123 Pete Maravich Football - 1984 Topps #123 Dan Marino Hockey - 1987 Topps #123 Adam Oates 3 All-time greats and a slam dunk HOF'er I love finding weird #$%&*! like this. Sorry it's not pre-war, but too cool not to share.

Here's another interesting Topps #:
![]() George Atkinson's nickname is Dr. Death. His 1973 Topps card is #187. Penal Code section 187 is the California murder statute. So Dr. Death has a murder card.

While it's a Bowman, Topps owned the company and its logo is on the back.

I'm making this up, but it very well could/should be true. Carlton Fisk and Steve Carlton are the only two players named "Carlton" to ever appear on a baseball All-Star card.
(Now watch as someone immediately refutes it. ![]()

Burt Hooton's middle name was Carlton and he was an all-star in 1981. But, we all know he didn't go by Carlton and a quick search of eBay shows the only thing he appeared on as an All-Star was a 1992 Trak Auto Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star stamp, which is not a card. Tex Hughson's middle name was also Carlton (and, actually, his first name was Cecil). He was an All-Star for three straight year from 1942-1944 but not on a baseball All-Star card, that I know of anyway. Last edited by OldOriole; 09-29-2021 at 06:54 PM. |
