Default The Ty Cobb Museum raffle for an Authentic Ty Cobb Autograph Card

The Ty Cobb Museum in Royston, Georgia is now selling its 2020 Ty Cobb baseball card, a numbered edition of 3000 cards issued last December, for $10 each on their website: https://ty-cobb-museum.myshopify.com/

This year for the first time, the Museum has also issued a 1-of-1 Authentic Ty Cobb Autograph Card as well. This 1-of-1 Autograph card will being given away in a raffle to one lucky purchaser of a regular 2020 Ty Cobb card. Later this year a drawing will be held in Royston from all the card numbers of the 2020 regular cards that are sold. The purchaser of the regular Ty Cobb Museum card with the number which matches the number drawn will win the 1-of-1 Autograph Card.

Here's you chance to own a valuable Ty Cobb Autograph card for only $10. Or, if you want to raise your chances of winning, buy multiple cards.

Revenues from the card sales support the operation of the Museum, which has been impacted by the Covid-19 virus shutdown.

Is this just a virtual store or something? I don't get it? Will there be a t206 Cobb back on display in this museum?

So the Ty Cobb museum cut up a Ty Cobb check (which was by definition 1 of 1) to make a "card" that is 1 of 1?

Nice to know they care.

The most polite word I can think of to justify this action is "misguided". Any other words that come to mind are probably not suitable for a public forum.

The Museum purchased the Cobb autograph already cut from the check, and then had it authenticated. It did not, and would not, destroy an original relic. The Museum and its Director stand behind this authentication.

The auto doesn't bother me. COVID smashed the budgets and endowments of many organizations, including colleges. Good for the museum doing what it needs to do to stay operational.

The Ty Cobb Museum was founded in 1998, sponsored by and operated as part of the Ty Cobb Healthcare System until 2015, when the Ty Cobb Hospital was sold to the Athens Regional Hospital System. Since 2015 it has operated as part of the Community Services Group of Royston, Georgia, which continues the operation of several of the philanthropic businesses which grew out of Ty Cobb's original founding of the Ty Cobb Memorial Hospital in 1951.

The Museum does have Ty Cobb T-206, but it was donated to the Museum already framed and thus we are unsure if it has a Ty Cobb back. (However, there is a T-206 Cobb with Cobb back in the collection of the nearby University of Georgia, although they do not display it except in special exhibits.)

The Museum does have many priceless relics, such as Cobb's 1907 Batting title medal, his Lifetime Pass to the Major League Games, a game used jersey and bronzed baseball cleats, plus many other personal items donated by the Cobb family.

The Covid virus resulted in the Museum being closed for about a year, although it is now open again for group visits with prior reservations. While the Museum has issued a Ty Cobb baseball card every year since 1998, the 2020 card was accompanied by the Authentic Autograph card in hopes of raising funds to make up for revenue lost during the Covid shutdown. The drawing for this card is planned for later this summer, hopefully after most al the regular 2020 cards have been sold. The regular 2020 Ty Cobb card is available for sale at the Museum shop, and at the website.

Is there a monthly or yearly news letter y’all put out. If yes, I’d like to sign up for that.

Jay,

We don't put out a regular newsletter, although we do have an email list that we sometimes use to communicate to friends and supporters. Most of our communication is through the Facebook Group that we started. You can join at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2517978548454290 Or search for "Official Ty Cobb Fan Group" in Facebook.
