I believe this is the first CSG card I have ever seen on Ebay if anyone wants to follow it for comps. I wish it was vintage instead, but oh well.

dirty fingernails and only 3 feedback with an 80% rating. Not going to inspire a lot of confidence. We need good sellers to list some.

A 9.5 Gem Mint is only the 3rd highest grade on their scale. They also have a 10 Pristine and a 10 Perfect.
I wonder why they didn't use an 11 like the old SCD slabs? ![]()

I had never of CSG before today. I went to their web page and like what I see. I don't yet have an opinion on the holder size as I would have to see it in hand, but I like the info provided on the flip including the sub-grades.
I also read about another company today called HGA that uses a scanner and software to grade the card. They have a color coded flip which I think is attractive, and they also provide sub-grades. I never heard of them before today either. Both companies have relatively quick turnarounds (for now), which is becoming more and more important to me. |

I like the look of the CSG, and the HGA is great too. I sent my order in last week. I think they will stay on their time frames. The HGA gaurentee's their
return times. My hope is that this will pressure the other companies to at least be looking over their shoulders. |

I think the flip will look even bigger with a t206 or smaller card. If they even grade them.

There’s no doubt that flip is bigger than a t206. Half of that text could be smaller or omitted entirely. TBH, I never understood why so much info was necessary to begin with. To start, the player name and card # are on the friggin card....

That Green Mosaic actually looks pretty chic with the flip above. Fortunate to hit the ground running with a matching color combo like that.
![]() Agree with everyone else, flip is simply stupidly large. |

agreed, it looks weird. seems fine for the "ultra modern" cards though.

I don't like it at all for that Mays, or for any card of that era. The color simply clashes and the flip is just too big. Can you even imagine a T206 getting lost inside of that monstrosity? I really want to try them out, but unless they de-emphasize that flip (or offer up some more subtle options for T206, Caramel Cards and Goudey) I just don't think I can pull the trigger. Still, I wish them luck. |

Grading done consistently to the generally agreed upon standards adopted by the big 3 is what the majority of collectors want. It's the consistency that's maddening, leading to the suspicion of purposeful misdoing and froth you seen on this chat board. No one needs a 1.5 to be a 2.5 because there's a feel good factor over not damning a card with over harsh judgement. It's fine as a 1.5, the card is still whatever the card is upon visual inspection regardless of the number on the flip. You want that Mays to be where it is? So where does this Mantle need to be bumped to? (Zero creases/wrinkles). ![]() It's gotta be a 4 right, even though the back has wax stains and spots of paper loss? ![]() So without paper loss and wax stains, what does the card now deserve to be? You're just opening more cans and finding more worms no-one will be able to navigate or agree upon. My card's a 2, 2.5 on a great day. That Mays is a 1.5, at best IMO. CSG are setting themselves up for lack of credibility, as well as the very worrying possibility some buyers who think the flip number must be an honorable one from a TPG and pay a price they'll never re-sell it for. CSG should stick to modern and overgrade if anything, much more likely to find a niche that is accepted that way. Just added this to my collection the other day....may the reign of critical grading and high standards live long. This 2.5 for the miscut at top and a tiny surface dent. ![]() Last edited by 68Hawk; 03-17-2021 at 12:31 AM. |

I disagree with the current scale and would prefer a grade of about 4 for that Russell. Great card, despite the OC.
I know that people are acclimated to the current system and no new grading company is likely to change it anytime soon. I just wish that someone would. As for the Mantle... Does the staining go through to the front? Or is that dark center area just a shadow of some kind? |

That Bill Russel is laughable at a 2.5 It looks fantastic. The only problem I see is the centering, which AFFECTS PRACTICALLY EVERY 1961 FLEER you look at!!!

I agree the Mays is over graded. Also that the flip is a HUGE detractor. Agree with an earlier comment that the biggest problem lies between gross inconsistency and gross incompetency! Anyone care to guess the grades on these?

I participated in a group submission to CSG and sent 15 cards. All modern era cards within the last 10 years or so. I just don't think the flip would look good with a vintage card in it and that Mays proves it.
