This year has taken some of the greats. When you thought it could get no worse, it does. Whitey Ford has passed away.

20+ years ago he signed a baseball "To Rob" for me, at the East Coast Nat'l in White Plains, NY, and shook my hand. He was very cordial.

RIP - he was a great pitcher and person. Sounds like Mr. Ford had been in poor health for a while now, so hopefully his family can find some comfort now....

The man was a rock star, hung around with Mick, and was generally beloved. I am sorry he passed, but he had one helluva run!

Dealt with him several times in the 1980s and 90s always a great guest and fan friendly , and a fan favorite wherever the show was. First few times I saw him he wore a coat and tie during the signings , as did Joe D.
Good businessman on the business side of the shows and private signings also , always did what he said he would before the days of complicated card show contracts . Let's see Seaver Gibson Ford . Helluva rotation up there now. |

Probably about 25 years ago, he signed a baseball for me at a Michigan card show.

Rest in peace Whitey. What a great story teller and such a clutch pitcher. I never collected any of his cards but do have a great autograph from when he was Ed Ford.

Ford, Seaver, Gibson. Let's hope God only wants a 3 man rotation in heaven.

I was fortunate enough to see Whitey pitch from 1950 to 1967. In the Summer of 1973, we went to Yankee Stadium to see the Oldtimer's Game.
Whitey Ford was pitching for one Oldtimers team, and Mickey Mantle was playing for the other Oldtimers team. When Mickey came to bat, Whitey grooved the pitch to him. Mickey drove the ball deep into the Left Field stands. The crowd went wild with excitement. That was Mickey's last HR in Yankee Stadium. GOD Bless his soul....and, may GOD comfort his Family. ![]() TED Z . |
