Today marks Ross Barnes 170th birthday. In honor of Ross, I would like to see posts of anything related to him, whether pictorial or otherwise. Also, as many of you know, I have been a long time proponent of Barnes for the Hall of Fame. Since 19th century players will be up for consideration this year, I would like opinions on who is most deserving from that era for Hall of Fame induction.

Will try to find something to post later, but wanted to add I think Barnes is an excellent choice for the Hall. May another couple candidates later.

My first choice for the Hall from the 19th century would be “Doc” Adams.
Think Dr J B Jones deserves consideration, but he has no chance. |

Dr Jones, was President of the Excelsiors, took them on the first tour outside of New York area, was the first to recruit players and pay some, eg Creighton. He was important in working with Adams on the rules, was chairman of the rules committee and was the first President of the NAABBP. He was instrumental in finally getting the fly rule passed. He has zero chance but I have done research on him and found him interesting. I just threw it in.

Gary, sure you know this work, but I’m posting it since he calls the best second baseman ever. Since it was published in 1897 it covers almost all of the 19th century. Sorry photos are reversed.
