Two of my favorite all-time greats (especially hometown hero 'Clyde' Frazier)...
1974chamberlain2501972frazier60.jpg But I was always fascinated and puzzled by that Wilt Chamberlain card. "Conquistadors"??? Huh??? What??? So here is an illuminating cut and paste from his Wikipedia page: San Diego Conquistadors (1973–1974) In 1973, the San Diego Conquistadors of the NBA rival league ABA signed Chamberlain as a player-coach for a $600,000 salary.[113] However, the Lakers sued their former star and successfully prevented him from actually playing, because he still owed them the option year of his contract.[4] Barred from playing, Chamberlain mostly left the coaching duties to his assistant Stan Albeck, who recalled: "Chamberlain ... has a great feel for pro basketball ... [but] the day-to-day things that are an important part of basketball ... just bored him. He did not have the patience."[113] The players were split on Chamberlain, who was seen as competent, but often indifferent and more occupied with promotion of his autobiography Wilt: Just Like Any Other 7-Foot Black Millionaire Who Lives Next Door than with coaching. He once skipped a game to sign autographs for the book.[113] In his single season as a coach, the Conquistadors went a mediocre 37–47 in the regular season and lost against the Utah Stars in the Division Semifinals.[113] However, Chamberlain was not pleased by the Qs' meager attendance: crowds averaged 1,843, just over half of the Qs' small San Diego 3,200-seat sports arena.[113] After the season, Chamberlain retired from professional basketball. Love it!!!

Big pick up for me. 1952 Topps Johnny Sain error card with the Joe Page bio.
Johnny Sain was the last pitcher Babe Ruth faced in 1935 and the first pitcher Jackie Robinson faced in his major league debut in 1947. "John Franklin “Johnny” Sain (September 25, 1917 - November 7, 2006) has the unique distinction of being the final pitcher that Babe Ruth faced in his career in 1935 and the first hurler that Jackie Robinson would face in the big leagues after breaking the color barrier in 1947" https://www.psacard.com/cardfacts/ba...e-bio-49/22975

This is sort of an odd pickup, but I thought it was a pretty cool Winfield rookie item...

To begin with, I highly recommend taking a couple of minutes to listen to this great old Police tune, as the chorus really sums up what is happening to us all right now...
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...7ef57394c6a950 Before Armageddon hit a couple of days ago, I grabbed up this Schmidt RC, and it arrived today, so I'm trying to make the best of what's still around. Yup, there is a semi-blizzard of snowfall swirling around and through the players, but in hand it's not overly bothersome to me at all (opinions will certainly vary). Large, high-def scans always make things seem more alarming (actually, now that I look at it, this scan - with the lack of a CCD element - does the exact opposite and very much DOWNPLAYS how conspicuous the snow is, especially on Hilton's hat, but I digress). However, I'll take these corners and perfect centering any day of the week... 1973schimdtrc615PSA9pd.jpg Update: here's a more 'alarming' scan... s-l1600-5.jpg
