Here is a list of MLB players and managers who served in the Civil War. Whether there were baseball cards of any of them is a different question that I don’t have time to research right now.
https://sabr.org/cmsFiles/Files/Civi...20veterans.pdf Edited to add the list of confirmed veterans who played or managed in MLB, from the above document: Frank Erwin Allen Douglas L. Allison Henry Austin Frank Bancroft Alfred Barker Nathan Berkenstock Thomas Haney Berry Henry Washburn Berthrong Oscar Bielaski Charles Bierman David Birdsall Thomas John Carey Louis A. Carl Dennis Coughlin William H. Craver Washington Fayette Fulmer James H. Gifford John A. Greenig Winfield Scott Hastings Nathan W. Jewett Caleb Clark Johnson Fergus G. Malone Alphonse C. Martin John Dickson McBride William Parks Edwin B. Pinkham Albert G. Pratt Seymour Studley William Warren White Nicholas Ephraim Young. Last edited by trdcrdkid; 10-11-2018 at 12:13 PM. |

Frank Bancroft is one. He was a manager only but he had at least one card, a T204 Ramly.

Love that cabinet Jay, neat experiment in baseball uniform history.
Deacon White was the oldest player in the League when his OJ card was issued in 1888, he was 17 years old at the close of the Civil War but did not serve. By the time baseball card production exploded in the late 1880s the Civil War Vets were aging well beyond their prime but many of those circa 1887-1889 players had fathers, uncles, etc. who did serve.

I was told that Doug Allison and Frank Bancroft have a 1879 NY Clipper Woodcut. Anyone have either of these to show ? Thanks

I do not have Allison’s 1879 Clipper woodcut, but I have several earlier ones with the Red Stockings.
Hope they come out. |

Here's another Civil War veteran item: 1872 Mort Rogers Scorecard with David Birdsall on the cover.
