On 4 May 1975, the 1,000,000th run in MLB history was scored. For a brief few minutes it appeared that Dave Concepcion’s 5th inning home run off of Atlanta’s Phil Niekro did the trick. As fate would have it for Concepcion and Cincinnati fans, Houston Astro first baseman Bob Watson beat the speedy Reds shortstop to the plate by mere matter of seconds at Candlestick Park.
The 1,000,000th run countdown was sponsored by Tootsie Rolls. If you have promotional items related to this event, I would love to hear from you. This bat and wire photo could use some company. Dave Grob davegrob1@aol.com |

I do remember that Tootsie Roll promotion....Didn't they use Stan Musial as their spokesperson?
Good luck with additions! Bill |

Bill,
You are correct. Stan the Man was one of players they had out front on this promotional effort. Dave Grob |

crazy because I thought I remembered that Bob Watson was the 10,000th major league player. If I am remembering correctly that's a crazy coincidence.

Close... BBR counts Watson as the 10,117th player to make his major league debut.
Four guys -- Billy Sorrell, Dick Selma, Darrell Osteen, and Bud Harrelson -- are listed as tied for 9,999th. Four more guys are tied for the next spot, 10,003rd.

Have you ever reached out to Mark Sackler, the guy who came up with the promo?
https://millenniumconjectures.com/20...millionth-run/ and he's on Twitter, if you are so inclined https://twitter.com/MarkSackler
