1887 Allen & Ginter centering
Over the years, I would occasionally check ebay for a nicely centered Charlie Bennett card and they always appeared shifted, usually to the right. So last week I finally found one that pleased me. I am prepared to declare this the best centered Charlie Bennett card in the history of the world.

Maybe there are lots of them that are centered but they never seem to appear on eBay. This one got the "poor" rating because an early collector used the back as a checklist...

I'm a big fan of the N28s. You can find amazing looking fronts with scrapbook damage/residue, pencil marks, etc. that don't really distract from the overall appeal. Your Bennett is a great example. Congrats on the pick-up.

Could be a 5(MK) from PSA if you play the resub game. Nice front. I was wondering what the damage on the back was to get a Poor.

Thanks, guys. I was happy to finally grab a card of the godfather of Detroit baseball. He was on the Detroit Wolverines from the very beginning until the very end and then had the Tigers' first ballpark named after him. Not too bad. I wonder if he would have been honored like that had he not endured the horrible train accident where he lost his legs. He had an interesting life. He became a china painter in his later years.
...and as long as I can read the stuff on the back of the card, that's good enough. Nice Anson card, JW. It's almost centered as perfectly as my Bennett! The top corners appear too pointy, though. Those could have injured a 19th century child. Last edited by baztacula; 09-14-2016 at 07:09 AM. |
