I've been looking at tackling a pre-war set and the N300 seems to be calling to me. This will be a long term project since there are some high dollar cards, but I think its a good set to test my dedication to the hobby
![]() ![]() What does everyone think about the set? Has anyone completed it before or working on one? What cards are particularly difficult to find? And of course, let's see some cards!!

If you buy raw, beware of the borders being touched up with black marker. Sometimes this is easy to spot but other times you need a loupe to see it clearly.
There are a few team variations for individual players. I have heard that some of these are tougher to find than others. Tom C |

A great set - good luck on the quest!
This Duffy is the only scan I have here on my computer at work. I have 4 commons which came from my only vintage baseball 'find', when someone I knew discovered them behind a wall that was getting ripped down during a gut renovation on an old Victorian house. I kept hoping for more calls as the renovation continued, but alas, that was the only card-related find. Two were in decent shape (PSA 3-4), two were beaters. |

I have a generously creased (one major crease but not across the face) Anson that I think I paid $300 for, but I suspect is a good value in the rearview.

My other two beater HOFers came from two entirely different sellers, but from their almost identical damage (exact same severe trims, and pinholes in the same place), I'm of the belief that they hail from the same old-time collection - which I find cool. Great set!! Last edited by triwak; 04-27-2016 at 12:27 PM. |

This is one of my favorite sets. I've contemplated working on it before, and if I had enough $, I definitely would.

If this set was in my budget I would definitely attempt it. Might start trying to chip away at beaters if opportunities arise. It really is a beautiful set. Best of luck!

Not the prettiest card, but heck of a pedigree. Was once owned by another board member right here!

Yes this is definitely a cool set to collect. I have been stumbling along for years with this set. I second the previous comment about watching for cards with borders being touched up....hard to pick up in scans but significantly easier to see in person. Fortunately most marker ink bleeds through to other layers of paper or the markers aren't made of true black ink - so there is some color discrepancy when you look closely. Good thing it is hard to make a truly black ink!
Don't expect to add a lot of cards quickly to your set. And it would help to subscribe to an auction alert site. There are 8+ cards with alternate uniforms, spellings or no uniforms, I believe. Delahanty seems to be a difficult card to get, as is the Brothers Louisville version. And for whatever reason, there are a couple of commons - Haddock being one - that are more difficult to find. Happy hunting.... Z Last edited by Zach Wheat; 04-27-2016 at 09:52 AM. |

Being touched up is not a problem. At one time I have a few tough T210s that were touched up. Was happy with what I paid and received plus the new owner was also very happy.
