Default Looking for a nice Black & White vintage set to start

I am not new to collecting but a little bit new collecting vintage. I am looking for a nice clean looking black and white set to collect. Looking for something in the 50's or 60's that is financially attainable. Not looking for anything super high value.

I am looking for thoughts and ideas. Thanks!

I'd suggest 1950 Callahan HOF. Beautiful cards, something different, display very nicely, and very affordable, even PSA graded.

Hey Ron,

Personally, I'd stay away from the Callahans, even though he's correct, it's a nice set. But there are some VERY tough cards in that set, and you will have to fork over some cash to get the set completed. Also, if you want a "photo" of the player instead of a stenciling, I'd pick something else.

Some ideas:
1969 Topps Deckle
1953 Bowman Black & White
1947 - 66 Exhibits
1952 Parkhurst

There are others, but you may have to go back into the 40s or earlier if you want to collect "black & white" cards.

Just some food for thought...

Jimi

69 Deckle is easiest to complete. Go for the master set if you do work on one.

I'd choose 1947-66 Exhibits. Beautiful black and white photos and large oversized cards. I've thought about putting the set together myself. Very affordable.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I have a lead on a lot over 50 1948 Exhibits. Including a 1947 Paige. Waiting on more info. I will keep everything in mind.

@JTysver - How hard would a master set be? How many variations and such?

Just a couple.
I'll be honest, you could put together a nice set for well under $100 and get a couple of rarer cards in the process. You could then move forward on the Exhibits. The Exhibits would probably cost more than a $1000 to complete.
