1952 Topps Discussion?
I just started collecting a 1952 Topps baseball set and am trying to find those with similar interests to converse with.
I've looked, but didn't find anything...is there a dedicated thread to 1952 topps on Net54 or another site that you might be aware of? Thanks for having me and looking forward to being part of the community!

1952
There are several 1952 collectors here and there have been several recent threads here about that set. One more never hurts. I have a set. I will try to post some links to earlier threads later today . Where are you on the set ?
By the way, welcome aboard |

Welcome! There have been a few interesting discussions on the set over the last few months--there is a search function on the thread you can use if you get bored and want to read through prior threads or want to revive any of the discussions.
I love the 1952 Topps set but only have three cards--Pafko and both Mantle variations. At some point, I'd love to put the whole thing together but just cannot justify the cost of the high numbers or the space that it would take up in my tiny apartment at this point.

Graded or NG?
Thanks for the welcome.
I'm also interested in finding out where other 52 topps collectors get their cards. Online, local shops, events, etc.?

I applaud you for making this decision. It sounds like this journey is for a collection and not an investment and I can assure you that you and your kids will enjoy the cards even more as you hold them. This may sound crazy, but I swear that I can still smell bubblegum on some of my 52's! I would encourage you to get to know sellers/dealers that you can trust so you can avoid alterations and/or fakes, especially on the higher value cards. A nice alternative to the grading slab is to keep the cards in penny sleeves and top loaders. Ultra Pro makes these for the larger 52-56 Topps and they provide excellent protection at a low cost.
Continued luck on your journey. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Question, so with 52 Topps raw, will they fit in the Ultra Pro Platinum 9-slot pages?

Vintage...so do they make pages where I can put the card in a penny sleeve, then a top loader, and then in an ultra pro page? (better protection than just putting them in the page by itself)

I am not aware of any sheets like that. You can put the vintage sleeves/top-loaders in the 4-card Ultra Pro sheets if you want to use a binder. I believe I saw that you were using them for your graded cards. These will work the same, but actually stay in the pockets better. Best of both worlds. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

top loaded in 4 sheets
I have my 54T set in top loaders and in the 4 card sheets. I tried this as a whim and it turned out pretty nice for display purposes. The 54 set is only 250 cards though and it fills up a 3 inch binder pretty tight...
Just thought I would chime in... Thanks, Nate Mack

If you choose to use sheets, you will need to buy the ones with 8-pockets. They fit 52-56 Topps.

Cards in their natural state
All of my sets are ungraded and in binders for easy access. if you are a purely a collector and not looking for a long term investment, I think that is the way to go. But to each his..or her...own
8 pockets are easy to get/ find, and they display well Last edited by ALR-bishop; 07-07-2014 at 03:05 PM. |
