I forgot to bid on this before it ended yesterday - has got to be the weirdest baseball-related cabinet card I've ever seen:

although mounted photo might be more appropriate. I'd guess 1908 or perhaps a skosh earlier? I'm no expert. I really like it. I used to buy doll photos and circus or black themed photos to sell on feeBay in the mid 1990's to feed my own habit of women base ball players cabinets. I figured as long as I was going to photo and ephemera shows AND ebay was just being born..... After 3/4 years doll collector's interest in them leveled off like much of what was old and new after they were exposed to the medium - the market matured and corrected with the internet. Circus oddities and african americanna seems to have remained as it was. I kept a few examples of each genre.

That being said I might have developed a strange attraction to unusal doll photos as a result of my travails A weird shot like yours will always hold it's value - I've never encountered one with a base ball uniform and the overall spookyness draws the viwer in. I'd keep it - but if not - you can shoot me a number......![]() didn't see you slept the auction. Sorry about that.... Last edited by 1880nonsports; 05-17-2014 at 12:18 PM. Reason: ooops |

The first 3 links show the Federal League version. The 4th link describes the American League version as pictured above (thankfully, no picture). There was also a National League variation... http://www.lelands.com/Auction/Aucti...mposition-Doll http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/.../2007/886.html http://legendaryauctions.com/LotDeta...entoryid=92047 http://legendaryauctions.com/LotDeta...ventoryid=1210 Last edited by perezfan; 05-24-2014 at 08:38 PM. |
