Hey all,
So, I don't know how many of you remember (or care, for that matter), but I'm sllloooowwwwllllyyyy trying to put together period pencil signatures of all of the players from the '36 Yankees. The crown jewel of the bunch obviously being Gehrig. I was wondering if I could get some opinions as to how much I might be looking at to obtain one. I have no problem with it being on a cut, or on a page with other signatures (which would probably even be preferred, if the signature is surrounded by other Yankees from that period) or whatever. My only two caveats are that it's pretty visible and that I would prefer to keep it graphite. Since it would be from his last few years in the league, I really have no problem with his somewhat rushed signature either, the one that connects the 'L' with the 'Gehrig.' Actually, I might even prefer that style. TPA isn't necessary, but obviously I'd like one that's authentic. ![]() Any guesses? Thanks, Graig

authentic Gehrigs go for "ballpark" (pun intended) around $4k... $2500 if you're patient enough.

That's about right although $2500 is a bit low IMO. $3000 to be safe.

One of my first thoughts, too. But my available Gehrig is not in pencil.

Hey guys,
Thank you so much for all of the information and suggestions - it's all SUPER helpful. I guess for now I just have to figure out what I'm gonna do. In regards to trading a painting for one, well, that would definitely be amazing. But seriously, it's Lou frikkin' Gehrig! I mean, aside from Ruth, it's gotta be one of the most desirable signatures in the hobby. I just find it kinda nutty that someone might be willing to part with one for something other than money. Regardless, I'd certainly be into it too, but I guess the deal would have to be super right for everyone involved. Thankfully I'm in no huge hurry to get one, so I guess there's a good amount of time to think about it. What has everyone's experiences been with pencil signatures? Are they a bit tougher to find than those in pen? I understand that graphite is a little less desirable, but I have no idea if that has anything to do with what I see available for sale on people's websites and the such. Then again, I still know next to nothing about autographs. Anywho, thanks again to all of you who responded to my question! Graig
