Longest time between two cards of same player in Topps era?
Collector Don Sherman recently pointed out that Brock Davis appeared as a Rookie Star in 1963 Topps and then disappeared from their sets until 1971.
http://www.beckett.com/player/bryshear-davis-397956 An 8-year gap's pretty big, but I suspect it's not the record. Other than player-to-manager absences like Tom Lasorda or Sparky Anderson and infamous signing issues like Maury Wills, what active players spent several years between cards? Is there one we can consider this "record holder?" |

Maury Wills was in the background of a 1958 topps card sliding into second? he didn't appear on another topps card until 1967?

Right, 1960 Topps #389 shows an unnamed Wills fielding a throw on the "Luis Swipes Base" World Series card and then doesn't appear on a Topps card until 1967 as a Pirate. Brock Davis is the first I've heard of having a longer gap. (Maury did appear in the 1960s Post Cereal sets and 1963 Fleer in-between, but no Topps.)

As a player, Minnie Minoso. He finished up with a 1964 card and was next on a record breaker card in 1977 for being the oldest player due to an appearance in 1976.

I don't count the Minoso, as his 1977 was a "special" not a regular card. Going crazy to top Brock Davis (I need to get a life). Can't do it yet. Came close with Wally Wolf and Paul Ratliff 1963/1970. Wally Wolf being interesting because it was the same (crude) photo both years. Makes me wonder if 7 years is the Topps record for gap using the same picture.

I think I found a legit regular issue card that tied Brock Davis' 8 year gap... Vicente Romo; 1975 Topps set, then disappeared until 1983 topps. Bam!

Another one that is close:
Danny Murphy appeared on Topps cards in 1961, 1962, and 1963 as an outfielder for the Cubs. He disappeared until 1970 when he resurfaced as a pitcher for the White Sox. |
