Hi,
I have been interested in Louisiana issues and I have a question about the year of issue of the Holsum Bread set. 1. The Standard Catalog lists the set as a 1920 set that is based on the 1921 E121 American Caramel set and the 1921 W575 set. The Standard Catalog does not show a "D" # for the Holsum set. 2. The PSA Pop report shows the set as 1921. It does not list a "D" # on the pop report, but it does say D327 on the flips of their graded cards. 3. The PSA Pop report also shows 1 card under "1921 D328 Weil Baking Co, Holsum Bread variation. 4. SGC lists the set under 1921 Holsum Bread without a D designation. 5. The SGC Pop report also shows 1 card that is graded under 1920 Holsum Bread. So, my questions are: Is this a 1920 set or 1921? Is this a D328, D327, or something different? Why do both SGC and PSA have two separate catagories for this set? My guess is that the answer to this question is that these cards are fairly obscure and the graders didn't know what they were grading. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks, Rick

I always considered it 1921. Here are some examples:

Clearly 1921. Same general category as Koester Bread cards.

Actually they are a joint year issue being issued in 1920 then a second issue was issued in 1921. If you look at the article I wrote for "Old Cardboard" it specifies how one can tell which set they have a card from. I can elaborate later if there is demand for that.

Here is one labeled 1920, not sure if that is correct will need to check my back issues. I can see one difference in this one and Brians is the "H" in H Weil Baking is in different locations-

Thanks for the responses and the scans, guys. I appreciate it.
Rhett, I have all of the OCB's. I will take a look at it tonight. The thought of this being spread over 2 years is interesting. PSA's pop report looks pretty clean, but SGC's is interesting. Their pop report shows several players who are not on the Standard Catalog checklist. Herzog, Gleason, Leibold, Lewis, Rixey, Daubert, and Bagby. SGC also carries the E121 designation in front of many of these players. SGC's pop reports has two separate listings for Mamaux, Bancroft, and Pfeffer, which makes me wonder if this is a mistake or are these separate issues. It looks like the following players have never been graded by either company: Bodie, Geo Burns, Carey, Dauss, Evers, Doak, Gardner, Johnson, Killefer, Kilduff, McGraw, Morgan, Myers, Peckinpaugh, Robertson, Schang, Sallee, Stock, and one of the Strunk cards. Thanks, Rick
