I have this PSA 9 1932 U.S. Caramel Ty Cobb---SMR is $26,500----if you were selling this card (not buying)--would u sell at SMR -- Above or below SMR---card was graded a few years back----This will be the highlight for me at the National---thanks, Don

Put it up at a major auction house, or depending on what you collect, or if you collect, do an insane trade for tough items or cash. You could possible sell that an get a low-end T206 Plank with some cash involved, or a decent graded Magee / Maggie. Gorgeous card, and good luck

Without more research I would say I would take SMR on it. It's a commemorative card after his playing days and 26k is some serious money....

If I had a complete set I would return for a league baseball like it says on the back of the card.

What about 3 sets for a glove? It's a $3 value

I find it curious that, since it's a tribute card, they gave his team as the A's and not the Tigers for whom he played 22 of his 24 years.
Would take $26.5K with no regrets Beautiful card. |

+1 , interesting, didn't catch that. Is there another Cobb from same set that's with him in a Tiger's uniform? I am not familiar with this set.

Couple data points for the discussion:
According to the PSA pop report only 3 of these have graded 9 (none higher). In 2010 an SGC 92 (8.5) sold at auction for $13,440.00. The PSA Registry shows 16 sets of these. Only the #1 set has a PSA 9 Cobb. The #2 set (Marshall Fogel's) has a PSA 8 Cobb. Obviously Don wants to offer the card for sale himself. But in terms of market value, I think if this card was put into an auction where the PSA Registry guys bid, it might really go high.

Thanks guys for the great comments and observations---I think the card should go around SMR---I just have to find the heavy hitter who can afford it---I know a large auction house would go well, but I do prefer it sell it myself especially with the National approaching. thanks again and I look forward to more comments. Don

If it has not sold by the National, leave it on consignment at the table of one of the big dealers who does a lot of that kind of stuff.

A spectacular card, but slightly overgraded due to the soft upper right corner and the staining on the reverse. I doubt it would fetch SMR in any sales format.

I noticed the stain, you'd think PSA would notice that as well.

I'd say it's a wet sheet transfer from another Cobb sheet. Does PSA usually deduct for this?

If you are referring to the 1 1/2in round stain, it looks more like glue residue to me...

I think Chris is right, it does look like a wet sheet transfer.
They obviously didn't nick the card in any way for it and certainly should have.

Don,
Were you able to move the card at the National?

Yes I did sell it at the National---there was alot of interest and I sold it to a major dealer----and later in the week , a major collector stopped by and bought another Caramel off me and I told him about the Cobb---he stated, he was going to buy the card. So the card did move out rather easily. Don
