Bill--If you can get a room, particularly one with a view of the lake, the Otesaga Hotel is a gem. It's where all the HOFers stay for HOF week-end, and for good reason--it's a classic old hotel. And it's a nice, couple of blocks walk to the Hall of Fame.

Cooperstown Lodging
I have stayed at the Lake Front Motel several times, it is an easy walk just a few blocks from the Hall of Fame. Older, but very comfortable (the motel, not me - well, maybe me, too), it is right on the lake and there is a marina and restaurant there. I would recommend it - for the price and location you can't beat it, I think.
