Type Collectors- What is your focus?

The title of this thread is somewhat of an oxymoron in itself. That being said it should be interesting to see how type collectors collect, since in general, we aren't set collectors (I admit to collecting a few sets). I do 20th century (1900) through 1949 baseball types. As for the cutoff year, I guess I just didn't want to go into the 1950's and deal with all of those cards too. Also, they just don't interest me as much...(truly a personal thing and I am sure 50's collectors have as much, or more, fun than anyone). I also have concentrated on ACC numbers, backs, variations, colors, misprints etc....as well as ancillary pieces the cards came in or were associated with. This is a picture of a Baguer Chocolate Truck from around the time period the baseball cards were put out. The cards, as pictured here too, were tiny in size at approx. 5/8th x 7/8 of an inch in size.

Always enjoy reading about how others collect, even if it isn't what I do. I've been bitten a bit by the type collecting bug. I started out just collecting caramel and T206 but now I'm just reaching out for some issues that I've admired in past like the T200. It's liberating not having to collect the whole set but just picking a choice example of its "type" or a variation.

There are so many type cards I obviously can't collect them all...including some that I do want but are just so rare and expensive I just can't..so I focus on what I like and what I can afford. The pool is so large that there is still plenty out there to keep me interested. I don't go too much for the back variety (like T206's)... also on some issues one from each decade is enough (ex: Zeenuts....I have one from the 1910's, 1920's, 1930's).

The card is a 1927 Tabacalera La Marena of Everett Scott. The set was produced in El Salvador.

I am attempting to get an example of every pre war set I can. I assume it will take me many years.

As mentioned above by another collector, the expense of some card sets will keep me from achieving this. And of course the rarity of some(You know like T231).

One other problem is that I have many examples of a few sets(i.e.Old Judge, E93) and have a difficult time parting with them to get closer to my goal. In other words, selling them and using that money for more type cards. I am trying to avoid buying any more examples from these sets but for me it is tough.

I'll just get what I can.

I like to collect 1 card of each hall of famer. A "playing year" card like T205 for Cobb and 33 goudey for ruth...etc. My current set in progress is 52 topps set psa 5's and up all nicely centered. This is a great thread. I really enjoy hearing about other collections.
