Default Slabbed/Graded and...

Slabbed/Graded and...served on a silver platter:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1933-GOUDEY-BABE...item3a5a6ad0dc

The doily adds that extra bit of class missing in most ebay listings.

Seems that all his cards are presented the same way and slabbed by the unknown grading company.
Not a bad card in the batch, but scanned so small you can't tell if they are real.

How can anyone not see that these are obviously a scammer's fakes?

Unreal that there are bids.

Enterprising bidders deserve what they get here.......

He is going to have to make his pics a little smaller, because I can tell that "NONE" of his cards are real. They are all reprints.

Lovely Day...

Default 4 bidders...

...with significant feedback clocked in at $350+ on that Ruth. So, what is the game plan?

Bid in the hopes its real. If it's fake, demand money back or file a claim with PayPal and get money back? Maybe there is such little actual risk that it makes these kinds of bids worthwhile. But it seems like a headache for such little chance of a payoff.

Apparently people think that amazing deals can still be had on ebay....

Amazing deals can definitely still be found on Ebay, but these don't fall into that group. Buyer beware in auctions such as this.... Yikes!!

I sent that seller an email asking for larger scans. The reply was:

----

I'm sorry Gary, but we are with the grand kids at our cottage in Quebec and the cards are back home in Toronto.

We're heading back this Friday though

----

Of course, the auction ended on Thursday, so I didn't bid.

Really? I doubt it. Certainly not with anything that has the name "Ruth" or "Cobb" or "Wagner" in the ebay listing.

A few years ago, there was a very poorly categorized lot of cards that included the extremely rare AWH Caramel backs and a few HOF T206ers. The descriptions was something like "Lot of Old Baseball Cards" and it was mis-listed in something other than "baseball cards".

After the auction was over, this wound up being an almost "famous" lot which earned a lot of discussion. A number of AWH collectors found it even though it had been poorly listed and bid it up over $10,000. I learned from that that there are too many people who spend too much time looking for deals on ebay that they just don't happen anymore. It only takes 2 bidders to spoil the discount.

In fact, I defy anyone these days to find a valuable pre-war baseball card listed as an auction on ebay that sells for a fraction of its real market value.

This is your standard lineup for most flea market scammers. you can buy these exact cards pre-grouped at Cesar's Creek Flea market near me, or you can buy packages of 25,50, or 100 cards of each. The same seller has T206 fakes for sale the same way; groups of hall of famers or lots of 25,50,100 cards. It's a shame that so many bidders fall prey to these sellers. Most likely the seller will be refunding money to these buyers after paypal claims are filed against him. the Ebay seller RPSITEMS has had to refund money on a particular N172 fake at least 3 times since March. Also , look at her feedback for a good laugh. the guys that paid hundreds for her fake Ruths probably thought they had gotten a steal from Grandpa's collection...until they opened that envelope LOL !!!

Perhaps somewhat ironically, these are the people that aggravate me the most. I take for granted that there are criminals out there, but the buyer in these instances thinks he's taking advantage of the seller, which to me is almost as bad. When he gets stuck holding a bag of worthless cardboard, it should be lesson learned for him.
