Default What's with ebay?

Ebay used to be like a private showing of cards that interested me. Now, the experience feels like sifting through a pile of junk mail to see if there's anything I shouldn't ignore. The categories have been broadened, and they are inundated with reprints. I know I spend less time and money than I used to on ebay.

What's going on? Does anyone have answers?

There can be only one explanation for ebay's downward spiral - the "new" CEO has a golden parachute that he can't wait to use.

"like sifting through a pile of junk mail"
Very good analogy. My feeling exactly. Once in a while they'll have a nice bunch of T210s or Zeenuts but mostly you have to wade through a big boatload of crap to find anything interesting. I am afraid that the Golden Days of eBay, if they ever were, are over. I think the answer why has to do with the overall decline of Western Civilization but I am not sure.

Nothing is over until we decide it is!

Bluto: Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?

NOTE: I know the photo does not match the scene, but it's the only one I have.

Hi Fred,

You don't have to use the parenthesis if you put the minus sign in front of each word you want to exclude. It is similar to an algebra equation where you just list each thing indivually rather than grouping them together.

I hate how reprints are listed in the original category.

I track large cents daily and that listing is likewise inundated with reproductions...and all of them originate from China. They list them for ten cents apiece and I don't think anyone ever bought even one.

I used to love to go through ebay. Now it is overpriced junk. If it doesn't sell at a high price one week, they will just list it again.

Default If only...

If only we could filter out reprint or RP, it would be good again. Is there a way to do that?

No kidding! I had a little time to kill yesterday so after I got tired of surfing the net for free porn [J.K; I pay for mine fair and square] I checked out the prewar baseball cards on ebay and I was surprised at how much garbage was in there. Nice going, ebay, way to make the shopping experience like a trip to a bad swap meet.

Default ebay categorizing poor

I just listed a few cards on ebay - haven't done so in a while. They changed the categorizing format right off the start. They have taken away the time frame format in year chunks. Bummer, I can see how all those pesky reprints show when one searches. And the BIN to auction ratio is WAYYYY too many BIN's - not like the old days.

I have to agree with 100backstroke regarding the phenomenal number of BIN's being advertised. In the case of 1914 CJ's (my present vice), the ratio of BIN's and RP's to true card auctions is often 15-20:1 (I am sure it is equally depressing for other card sets). In the case of the BIN's, this would not bother me if the asking prices were vaguely realistic, but they often are double what a realistic price should be.
