What is your favorite set of the 50's?
I'd love to hear other people's opinions on what their favorite set of the 50's is, and why you like that set. I really enjoy the sets from the 50's and have been trying to figure out which one was my favorite.
I was born in 1977 so I didn't ever get to see any of the players from the 50's in action so I only know the players from what I've read and the very limited film I've seen of the era. I think my favorite set is 1951 bowman. I love the vintage logo's on the front of the cards, I love that the set has a great group of hall of farmers such as Sammy Baugh and Otto Graham. It's got a couple of good rc cards with van brocklin and Landry. Overall it's just a solid set all around. I'd love to hear what other people think as there are a ton of great sets from that decade. I can honestly think of at least eight other sets from that decade that I am tempted to make my #1, but if I can only choose one 1951 bowman would be it. |

To me, there are two great sets of the 50's. The 1951 and 1952 Large Bowmans. I love them both equally, and might rate them as the best two football sets, period.

I really love the 1950 Bowman set because that set's Sammy Baugh is one of my favorite cards.
I also really like the 1957 Topps set. If you're going oddball, the Bread For Health set and the Bazooka cards are two great ones. |

I love the early 1950s Bowman cards and 1957 Topps. 1952 Bowman Large is definitely my favorite, due the great artwork and oversized card size. I completed the 1950, 1951 Bowman and 1957 Topps sets and am 6 cards away from 1952 Bowman Large and 10 cards away from 1952 Bowman small. I don't see myself completing the 1953-1955 Bowman sets.

A great question! I love all of the Bowman sets from the '50s and a few of the Topps ones. I'll throw in some votes for:
1950 Bowman. Love the color on these cards and the smaller size. 1955 Topps All-American - Iconic tribute set with incredible star power that goes all the way back to the beginning of American Football. My two favorite odd ball sets from this era, though, were mentioned above. 1950 Bread for Health - the only football bread label set produced. 1959 Bazooka - incredibly hard set of 18 cards that copies the baseball design from the same year jeff |
