Default First Set Completed

Well I have had my collection that I bought for about 5 months. I have completed my first set, 1954 Topps. I needed 17 cards after I bought the collection found about 8 or so this past weekend at a local card show (cards were not in the best condition, but I can work on upgrading later). Bought the final card, Tom Qualters, today at a local card shop. I have been buying a few cards from the other sets I have some of, so I guess it is time to more on to another, maybe 1955 Topps, need 14, a little more serious, but more high end cards for that one.

Congratulations.

You picked a good year, because there are no variations, so you don't have to worry about completing the "master" set. Insert smiley face here.

Have fun with the rest of them,
Doug

Default topps sets

hey Scott, great sets to start with, the 54, 55 and 56. The best sets from the 50's. that is how i started, with the 56 set. good looking cards in vg to vgex are affordable right down to the Mick. not a better run in any sport than the 52 to 56 topps baseball sets. good hunting.

I agree.....1952-1956 Topps Baseball sets are IMO the best run of Topps sets. I started that run myself and completed the '52-'54 and the '56. The '55was the last one I started but I sold off the '53, '54 and '56 to help finance another card. I either need to break up what I have of the '55s or try to finish it.

Anyway, Congrats on finishing the 1954 set. It is a nice one. Now get started on that '52.....

Default 1954 Topps

Congratulations on finishing this great set ( even though the best 50s Topps set is 1957 ). I started collecting in 1957 but my first completed Topps set was 1959.

I really do like the 1954 set, and, if you do become obsessed with variations and oddities, like at least two folks I know in this thread , then you can always work on the Topps 1954 "Canadians" ( cards 1-50), or the Sports Illustrated 1954 Topps Yankees that never were.

I did the '56 set. It was alot of fun and there are some beautiul cards in that set. I've recently broken it up to invest in some pre-war HOFers and a nice looking '53 Mantle. I kept the Ted Williams & Willie Mays though.

Thanks everyone. I think I will stick to the main sets at the moment, but the Canadians or the SI cards might be something to look at in the future. I like the idea of trying to get the 52-56 sets completed, but there is one card in the '52 that might take a while to complete.
