Jay's Publishing Cards
In the photo you see 3 different cards for one player. Makes some sense that a 45s one would be different from Astros in a different year.
However, I was not aware there are different poses for the same team. I collect them, thought I had them all, and then see a pose I don't have. I appreciate the help to explain this - am I missing cards in my collection? Thanks, Casey Last edited by Case12; 10-26-2020 at 09:34 AM. |

There should be Colt 45’s Jay Publishing team sets for 1962, 1963, 1964, and then an Astros set for 1965. I have all of the Cubs Jay Publishing team sets from 1960 through 1965, some photos were reused but there are always noticeable cropping differences. ETA, after looking at Colt 45’s Jay Publishing sets on WorthPoint it looks like the Bob Aspromonte batting pose photo was reused at least once but it should have cropping differences. ETA again, I’m not sure on the years yet but the Aspromonte batting pose photo was used twice but can be differentiated by his hand completely visible on one and partially missing on the other photo.

Wow! I feel nuts. I never knew this. I know about the packs. I thought the same pose out, and so there was no way to tell the difference. Now I have to find 2X more cards - if even possible.
And I am not sure I could tell the difference if the pose is the same? You mention borders? How do I know which year is which? It was only this pic on eBay of 3 togther I even caught this. I wonder how many (at least different poses) I have passed up all these years? Thanks, Casey |

I am on my phone right now and can’t post scans but if you go to WorthPoint and put in Houston Colt 45 photo set you will be able to see the different sets and compare the two sets with the Aspromonte batting pose and see that one of them has his hand completely visible and the other has his hand partially missing, which is the one you have. I haven’t been able to figure which year is which yet. ETA, if you are only looking for the Bob Aspromonte Jay Publishing photos then you only need one more, the batting pose with the hand fully visible. ETA again, it looks like the Aspromonte with the partially missing hand is from the 1963 set and the Aspromonte with the full hand is from the 1964 set.

Thanks! I'm beginning the comparisons now and will do my best to match photos to years (and with same poses difference). It will take me a bit of time to sorta coordinate it. But will be fun little project. Neat how we learn something new each day. Casey

Here are the Houston Colt 45s-Astros Jay Publishing team packs in order: 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965.
